  • Too dry??

This came up on a U.S. site i keep an eye on.....for entertainment (those yanks are mad! Lol)

I thought it looked dry but some are saying too much humidity causing it to swell when lit.

CAO Columbia, Purchased yesterday from a B&M with a walk-in, stored overnight in a zip lock with a boveda for company.

I'm interested in what your thoughts are as to the cause

That looks very similar to an experience I had with a Hoyo Grand Epicure:

What will cause this most often is the cigar not being kept at a constant humidity and temp and will then constantly shrink and expand.

As mentioned in the previous post ... I believe ... The inside and the outside are at a different humidity .

either over humidified and starting to dry out ... Or ... Dried out and just starting to rehumidify .

I had a Por Larranaga Picadores in JJ Fox last week, I took the label off as I got towards the end (it was so good I wanted to enjoy all of it), once the label came off it just unravelled, much like the pic above.

Likely, and with the increase in moisture build up whilst smoking...kapow! Outside temperature (being cold) can have a detrimental effect in the splittage department, especially if smoking at a fast rate and drawing heavily.
