  • Re conditioning dry cigars

The 'today on ebay' thread often gets me wondering about the condition of the cigars...

What are the thoughts on reconditioning dry cigars?

Can one just put them into a humidor/tupperdore and just wait while they rehumidify? Any experience of how reconditioned cigars smoke/taste?

I've done it once....and it seemed to work well...I put it in a tupador with a sprinkle of water in a cup and used to rotate the the cigar every 3/4 days along with checking the water levels, topping up if need be...I kept in that tupador for about 5/6 weeks. then i placed it in the humi once it felt like it had life again... but the cigar was only dried out for about 9 months, nothing too long..

I think the main key is to gradually releasing moisture back in to it.

In my opinion they have lost the taste even though they they can still be smoked.

Also if a cigar dries out completely, all of the essential oils inside will evaporate and most of the cigar's flavor will be lost.

I was given a few boxes about a year ago. They have been 'reconditioning' since then.
I tried one after six months and although it was smokeable, I don't hold out any hope that they will come good.
I will be trying another soon.

Don't put in with your normal stock. Wreck your humidity and possibly contaminate good cigars. Smoke as is or bin.
