  • Newbie Question

Apologies if this seems like a ridiculous question, but as I am still new to this hobby, it is something I have been wondering; are small cigars/cigarillos that come in packs of 5/10 such as Arturo Fuente Cubanitos, Davidoff Demi Tasse/Exquistos made to be smoked without requiring time in the humidor? Or should they be treated with the same reverance as a full sized stick?

Don't know. I only have one pack of Cohiba Shorts that I threw in with my cigars. I might get a few more in the future though (I had a Monte cigarillo the other day that was pretty nice).

My thought is that you can smoke them without the need for humidification, but there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer out there as to whether they would even benefit from being in the humidor. Interesting that the websites don't offer this guidance.

I have to admit that I have no knowledge whatsoever about cigarillos. But they don't take up a lot of space though and the place where I purchased mine stocked them in the walk-in.

That's interesting, thanks for that info. I guess that keeping them at the proper humidity won't hurt in any way and would probably improve the overall flavour and experience.

I think I'm right in assuming that all cigarillos are pre-cut for ease, something else that makes me think they can perhaps be enjoyed 'from the pack'.

They can be stored dry but if you keep them in a humidor with your full sized sticks you may find they burn slower with a smoother flavour. Dry cigars can burn faster and harsher sometimes.

              Thanks Pee-Jay, that makes sense.

I'm wondering if there can be a difference in terms of the present discussion between cigarillos (which I have no experience of) and (at least some) small cigars - there has been consistent comment here on how the El Rey del Mundo demi tasse, for example, needs some considerable time to come to its best.

I've read that too; is it fair to say that the majority of cigars, regardless of size improve with age?

In case anyone is interested, I spoke to a rep over at cgars, who advised that the packet cigars as detailed above can be kept out of the humidor for approximately ten days before they dry out. Keeping them in the humidor will preserve their life (and I suspect make for a more enjoyable smoke if kept in there for long enough) and keep them at the correct humidity if they are not going to be smoked immediately.

Think it is a rather good question and your initiative to speak with a rep also helps. I have just recently bought a pack of 5 olvia serie g and these questions came to my mind so yeah thanks for asking

I think the smaller vitiolas are intended to be smoked relatively soon, so humidification is optional, I guess. But all sticks dry out sooner of later and if you have a humidor, why not use it.

Now, as far as "requiring time in the humidor," not sure what you are asking, but if you are referring to aging, I wouldn't worry about it with these "small clubs." I don't think aging will add much, so why bother. That's been my experience, anyway.

Aren't the cigarillos machine made and dry cured, similar to Toscanos etc? If so then these don't really require humidification and can last a long time out of a humi

Absolutely; I actually smoked a Davidoff Demi Tasse last night and an Exquisitos this afternoon. Both were pleasant short smoked bit I can't imagine any notable complexity or improvement coming from aging either.

For those who don't think machine made cigarillos don't age ... never lost a cube of cohiba clubs for (about) 11 years .

just opened the last 20pack .

purchased at the departure lounge in vara in November '03 and forgot about/lost in my 5packs cooler until sometime in '14 .

smoother than new and tastier than new ... make no mistake ... these do not taste like a sigloII of similar age ... but they are tasty and have improved with age .

                              always kept in a cooler/humidified environment .
