Smoking at home and smells

Hello chaps - trying to scheme myself into a way to having a smoke or two in the house over winter. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with getting rid of the smell?

I do hate the smell of stale/old smoke, and it would ruin my flat a bit, but is there anything I can do whilst enjoying the odd smoke or two (maybe 1 a month) in the flat to preempt and stop this?

I've seen a few air purifiers about for example, but none have the spotless reviews I would need to convince me!

You need a powerful silver ioniser for that not one of those silly tabletop ones. I use a dehumidifier in the cabin for when it gets too high and the deioniser function clears the smoke and leaves a metallic smell in the air.

Most air purifiers are useless. If its just one a month, sit by an open window with a fan blowing out.

The issue isn't really with the air, its the soft fabrics to which the smoke clings. That's why lounges and my cabin have leather chairs. Febreze works to a point but only works where it makes contact.

This is my experience aswell, I use an extractor fan in the conservatory which gets rid of the smoke at the time and then use febreeze on the curtain and sofa once I've finished. Doesn't usually smell too bad the next day. If I don't use the febreeze it stinks.

I like the smell in the cabin but I'd still never smoke in the house

I wondered about this - back in the day my uncle used to smoke rollups and the smell would linger for days after a visit. So I wondered about these purifiers. Anyone actually use one in the house? Can we come round for a whiff?

I doubt they work enough.

I find the best thing is fresh air and fabreeze on the soft furnishing. it normally takes 3-5 days to totally get rid of the faint tobacco scent

You Stink!

Aside from the above fine suggestions, be sure to give the remains a respectful place to expire OUTSIDE your house or cave. There is nothing worse than the smell of a stale cigar butt. I lay mine to rest in an on old spittoon outside el Coro hacienda.

I?ve just got an Ambipur plug in anti tobacco air freshener for the garage and even on the lowest setting seems to work well. I think it was ?6.00

I've tried a few things, a few different HEPA fliters, had ionisers, ozone generators and currently have Blueair 405 filters.
To be honest, the best one for clearing the air is the 405 but it won't remove the smell. As Peejay said, it gets into materials.
I'd probably recommend an air filter / purifier to run while you're smoking and an ozone generator to run after you've finished / for an hour overnight. You shouldn't be in the room while the ozone generator is running but it does a great job of removing / completely masking smoke smells.
