Ever met a Cigar smoker you didn't like?

A post by Paulie in the "what I smoked today" thread made me think... Have you ever met a fellow Cigar smoker that you didn't like or couldn't chat to?

I have to say that I agree with the Maxim of Edward Sahakian of Davidoff in London that "nice people smoke cigars"...Discuss.

Nope, like I mentioned earlier. I've found a cigar person tends to be a very sentimental and thoughtful person. Cigar person as in, like the cuban and non-cuban markets. Not a hamlet or any cheapy smoker. We like cigars because we enjoy the experience, the different brands, all very mental stuff. I think some people dont have the brain capacity to fathom such a 'hobby' or simply don't agree with it.

But no, everyone ive met so far has been an interesting character, never seen a vaccuous or superficial BOTL

Not personally yet, but my uncle used to drive private hire in the late seventies and he said Jimmy Saville was a miserable git as he was a regular fare.

I think the same could be said about meeting anybody who shares a similar field of interest. Whisky, golf, cigars, even dogs. I regulary take my dog for a walk to an area which is very popular and everybody is very friendly and personable. It is because there is a shared common interest, both parties will find they have a lot in common and get on with each other, can chat about various aspects of their interest and give/take advice.

With regards to cigars, as MB stated, there is a difference between a cigar smoker and a cigar afficionado (to steal the title). Such is the scope of Cuban and NC cigars, it is very easy to chat with a fellow BOTL, even on a first meeting as there is a mutual respect and appreciation.

True Paulie cos dog walkers back of my house piss me off , and i guess non cigar smokers detest us [not all ] But true, cigar smokers are nice people , especially when they are smoking, have you enjoyed a stogie when you are stressed and angry, doubt it.

never, Ive met people that SAY they smoke cigars who have been dicks but they have all been the sort that tried one once and think they are experts... when really all they are experts on is their 20 B&H

What I like about all the people Ive met here is everyone has been genuine and friendly with none of this I know more than you , or you shouldnt do that vibe. its all good

I'm very new to this 'hobby', and I have to say, I've not had much contact with true cigars smokers. Probably because I've not been looking out for them.

Since Cuba, and this wonderful site, I'm sure I will come into contact with fellow afficionados. Hopefully so when I stay at Hotel Du Vin in Glasgow on business next Tuesday... I've specifically chosen this place for it's much revered cigar shack!

I have not, but there is something to be said about those cigar smokers who seem unapproachable anyhow. They may be jerks but I'd never know because they look too mean to talk to.

I have to admit I did scare off a fellow cigar smoker once but I didn't mean to. He came over because he was enjoying a cigar in a bar that doesn't cater to many cigar smokers and when he saw my buddy and I light up he must've felt relieved. When he came over and asked what we were smoking we talked briefly until I mentioned that the cigar he was smoking was not one of my favorites. (Acid Kuba Kuba). I mentioned that I didn't enjoy the sugar taste that is on the wrapper of those cigars. He got real quiet and then walked away.

I guess I've kept my opinions to myself since then when smoking cigars with strangers. I welcome people's opinions on cigars but not everyone welcomes mine. That's fine with me, I just don't want to be snooty like Mr. TJ.
