Calibration problems

Had my digital hygrometer sat in a zip lock bag for 24hrs with a plastic milk bottle lid filled with salt and a tiny amount of water and the humidity level is only saying it?s at 70%

Is this a problem with the hygrometer or have I not put enough salt in the bag with it?

Is there anything else that could be stopping it reaching the magic and elusive 75%

I just put mine in with 65% Boveda packs which I use.
I can then see how far out they are at my preferred level.

That's is strange.i wonder if you put enough water in? Maybe have another go with more water while you wait for the boveda kit to arrive.worth a go

I’ve got 3 69% Boveda packs.

Should I put one in with the hygrometer and remove the salt?

Worth a go I'd trust the pack.end of the day we don't need it to be bang on a specific point (unless you want to) just stable and to know if the hygrometer is roughly calibrated for a reference

Leave the salt and use the Boveda pack - but i still believe you get the best results after 24 hours when the temperature is stable at around 21C for a few hours. This week in the UK is not ideal unless you are in a air conditioned room.

Been at work most of the day but when I got home it was displaying 25C so maybe a little warm for it?

The salt test has always worked well for us Coros. We just fill a small cap with salt, dampen it just enough to darken it, but not so much that it begins to pool, and place the cap and hygrometer in a sealed plastic baggie for 24 hours. Always yeilds good results, i.e 75%

So if you did your test correctly, I’d say its your hygrometer, not the test.

The salt test has always worked well for us Coros. We just fill a small cap with salt, dampen it just enough to darken it, but not so much that it begins to pool, and place the cap and hygrometer in a sealed plastic baggie for 24 hours. Always yeilds good results, i.e., 70%

So if you did your test correctly, I’d say its your hygrometer, not the test.

It’s been steady at 70% since I got in from work at 5pm so taking the warm weather into account it could be acurate?

take your calibrateable hygrometer and throw it in the garbage ... now go and buy one that CANT be calibrated ... find the RH that works for you and go for it .

We do just the opposite at hacienda SoM. We replaced all our non-calibrateable (over a dozen) several years ago and replaced ‘em with calibrateable (is that a word ) units. When one goes out of wack - which they all do from time to time - we simply recalibrate it with a boveda pack. Simples.

I prefer the digital calibration one...just means when I see the display I know that's the correct reading
