Nice list habs, you could speak to your contents insurance people and see if they will include them, I had some rare stuff covered, when I lived in London years ago, you would be surprised what they are willing to cover if you pay a little extra on your premium, fire and theft only I would imagine.

Is that a new box of Gloria No.4's? have you tried one? you can certainly get some ideas from MRN's book, I had a box of Partagas Astorias which where a great smoke, all gone now though, and you just can't find them....some of the best of the discontinued Vitolas would be a good bet....

My 2c on the investment issue:

First and foremost, cigars in the UK are unlikely ever to show a profit, why does Mr HugeCollection from Hong Kong want to buy aged cigars whose asking price is affected by the initial tobacco taxes placed on them in the UK.

This has only slightly less of an affect when talking about regional cigars because have tax free zones or laws governing tax free sales on the internet. That box of Magnificos bought at Fox's may seem like a surefire winner for the future, but in Gibraltar people are sitting on boxes bought at a fraction of the price.

The second thing unfortunately clashes slightly with point 1: No matter how much you trust your cigar supplier you really want to be seeing the cigars you are buying, nobody will be paying premiums for crappy cigars, beautifully aged.

But this means going to a foriegn country such as Cuba, Switzerland, Hong Kong etc. Yes it's a nice excuse for a holiday, but it's negating future profits.

In terms of what will sell well in the future my hunches:

1. Anything Cohiba, if it's limited even better
2. The bigger the better- a double whammy: they are more popular, but are often produced in smaller quatities.
3. Well-thought-of cigars that are going out of production, especially if they were produced in small quantities. Recently think RG Lonsdales, Qd'O Gran Coronas, SP Sanchos, Partagas Coronas & Londales, Bolivar Inmensas.
4. For ELs and REs: Earlier ones will be more desireable, the quantities they are produced in now, means that they probably won't be collector's items for many years yet. If you can get cool box numbers do it.
5. HabanosSy's of getting boxes from the first shipments is very clever, there is perception that these can be of better quality than subsequent ones to get people interested. But remember- the first shipment to a particular country is not necessarily the first produced. You'll need the earliest months available on the box code.

From HabanosSy's amazing collection, as he says, some will have turned profit already: the Cohiba Pyramides and Sublimes, and the Monte Milleniums, and if the Bolvar GMs are the 2004 German release, they're already worth a fair amount.

Apart from that I really like the look of the Magnum 50 ELs, and the Carribbean REs.
