  • Golf ball through a straw !

My only taste of Cuba so far has been a couple of puritos, okay but not what I think of as a ' proper ' cigar.

Last Saturday I was really looking forward to a JLP petit cazardores, it took me about 45 minutes to smoke.
I just could not get a decent drag out of it, was like sucking a golf ball through a straw !
Very disappointed to say the least.

Oh well I thought, onwards and upwards.
Just finished the second one I had and the exact same thing!
This time I tried poking a long needle through it to no avail.
I've smoked a few nc of similar size with no problems so what gives? I have more cigars from JLP but dreading trying them now.

    Any advice for next time?

    Cheers,
    Anthony.

Get a perfect draw poker. If you Google it, you'll find it. It's not just a needle, but it drags some parts out and improving the draw without creating a tunnel.

What humidity/temperature are you storing at. Could be too wet...

        Thanks Guys,

At the moment there stored in a plastic tub!
Got one 69% Boveda in with them and my digi hygrometer
( calibrated ) reads 69 so spot on.
I've just unwrapped the butt and it does feel a bit moist?

Some like 69% here but i prefer 65%. I store at 18c/65% and find it's definitely the sweet spot for me. I tried 62% in the past but now think that was a mistake. Maybe try 65%, although I have also found it may take a while for everything to dry out from 69% to 65%.

In my experience Cuban cigars often have a firmer draw than Non Cubans. I personally prefer this and 45 mins for a petit cazadores sounds about right (for the time it would take for me to smoke one of these). As suggested the Perfecdraw tool may help or maybe you will prefer the NCs. If so, give the Padron brand a try.

Anyone who smokes Cubans owns a perecdraw or similar eventually.

By most accounts I've been lucky and only had a few plugged Cubans in over 15 years.

It's bad luck so far for sure.

Just finishing a Guantanamera Minutos, very light smoke but no problems with the draw.

So far it's only the JLP which have this really tight draw.
Hope not as I've another 15 in my stash!

This can happen with Cubans and almost never does with NCs depends how loose a draw you like too. I?d second or third getting a perfecdraw they?re not cheap but the first time you can smoke a Cohiba that would have been chucked you?ll be glad you?ve got it.

Also if you know when you?ll be smoking one and they?re at 69 id dry box them at least a couple of days before

                        This!

I believe I read somewhere that humidity drops 1% per month.

This sounds real. The humidity measured by hygrometer fluctuates a helluva lot compared with inside a box or even inside a cigar! Again an example of cigars and patience...

INJOYS Perfect Cigar Draw Enhancer Tool,Cigar Twin Nubbers for Cigar Lovers https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07T1CB8..._Kf94DbJ1FZXTW

I bought one of these as an alternative to the perfecdraw. Not had to use it yet, and not sure how it compares to the official perfecdraw... But seems a more sensible price for what it is.

Hmmm perecdraw has barbs on it so it probably extracts a lot better than that one does at a guess.

For just shy of 30? for a one time purchase I'd recommend the PD.
