Not strictly, however the combined abilities of Spanish cedar is very well for larger humidors, smell, insect/beetle repellent and hardiness towards moisture. But it?s damned expensive [emoji41]Originally posted by geoffbot View PostI cedar necessary in a walk in? My tupperdore has has no cedar yet keeps perfect 69% rh like the boveda packs that reside there.

Cedar isn?t about humidity .... it?s about replicating the box.... it just happens to be a good sponge which doesn?t taint the cigar with any unpleasant scent. You could certainly do a stainless steel walk in, or a UPVC a walk in etcOriginally posted by geoffbot View PostI cedar necessary in a walk in? Too much cedar will stink out your cigars. It's fine in small quantities but will ruin smokes of there's an excess.Originally posted by Hookmaker View PostNot strictly, however the combined abilities of Spanish cedar is very well for larger humidors, smell, insect/beetle repellent and hardiness towards moisture. Think of all the WIHs in shops we've been to.... Very little cedar. Sometimes just the slatted shelves themselves

Oak is good and can take the fairly humid environment, but has no repellent factor.Originally posted by geoffbot View PostWhat's wrong with say oak?
Anyways to all the WISEGUYS here ([emoji2957][emoji2957]) you are absolutely right.
This WIH is built of oak pannelling with oak trim, the racking is Finnish sauna wood - alder and only the shelves are made of Spanish cedar (slotted).
You can build your WIH out of mosaic eggshells if you want, whatever suits you [emoji41]
