Cigar repair help

Hi all,

Hope you're all having a good weekend despite the rubbish weather (teaming with rain here).

I have a Partegas Lusitanias which has a split wrapper from under the cap down to the band; I fear that when I cut the cap the whole thing will fall apart. Does anyone have any ideas on how best to repair it?

There's some kind of cigar gum/glue available on the cgars site, probably everywhere else to. Apparently it's a similar vegetable based gum as is used to make cigars. Comes in a little pot with a brush/lid arrangement.

Although, if it's just the wrapper from cap to band and the binder is ok, it sounds like mostly a cosmetic thing and you might get some flappy bits of leaf in your mouth. Not ideal but shouldn't damage the taste or overall integrity of the stick.

You might be able to reduce the stress on the split bit by punching it too I s'pose.

As a last resort, gaffer tape might do it?

Not an easy one this MB, I would be tempted to use a punch rather than a cutter if possible.That should reduce the risk of splitting the wrapper.

does the wrapper lift up at all?

If yes, something like the cigar repair glue CGArs sells, here, would probably work.

I used this on a few damaged sticks and works quite well as long as you let it dry properly before lighting up. Also for larcer cracks you have to apply a little pressure while it starts to dry, but otherwise it is a very helpful gadget to have.

I found this thread through google. I have in the past used the gum from Rizla to stick wrappers down.

sorry for posting the same info, I started writing then got disctracted by something else before submitting my reply, so I hadn't seen your post.

In my experience the burn is a little quicker where the wrapper was glued back, but nothing terrible. No influence on taste, I think this is the same stuff used when making cigars.

I hear this works real well for most everything.





But seriously, cigar rollers use vegetal gum to apply the cap when they roll a cigar. You may want to try to hunt some down locally.

Also do a search on YouTube for cigar making/rolling and you'll get an idea of how a roller applies it.

I did see your video actually whilst searching on google but its a little too drastic for me considering its only a split wrapper. One to remember though in case i happen to sit on one!

I have a few extra cigar repair kits if anyone is interested.
They are small bottles with a attached brush.If I am allowed to post a picture I will post one.
They are filled with Pectin which is a natural glue used to seal jars for canning.
