  • Food Pairing

I curently planning my next dinner party for friends to take place in a few weeks which will be a culinary feast of Thai, Indian & Malay dishes. Most of these dishes will be heavy on the spices.
I wondered because of the spicyness of the dinner and any potential residue thats been burnt into our pallets how would that affect the taste of the cigar?
One of my friends will be joining me for a cigar post dinner, he's only getting a cheap NC as he wouldnt know a decent cigar to save his life, this is a person I gave a old castella to with a genuine Cohiba band stuck on it. I had placed it back in my humi so he could watch me pull it out from my Cuban drawer thinking he's got something a bit special.

Can anyone suggest / or has tried anything with this food*

Noooo! Surely there's a law against that...isn't there?

The 7th law of the BOTL code clearly states:
'Yea, thou shalt not let thy brother light up a dodgy stogie, verily'
Penalty: being made to dress up in a pantomime costume, and play the rear end of a lady llama whilst running past George's house. Painful!

Off to Thailand soon so curious to hear others thoughts on this one too. So far, as part of my own experiments, I've had the best success with full bodied smokes, thinking of trying a Duke to see how that one holds up, will post back once I've given it a go.

For me i would want something nice and creamy, nothing too spicy after a spicy meal. A nice Cohiba Maduro Genio if you have the time, or a Magico if you havent.

Chocolate and spice go well together, the Cohiba Maduro's are certainly chocolatey

I've got some magicos I could have one of those but I dont think Ive got a spare band for one of those though!!!

He's not a real BOTL so I claim the 115th BOTL law, Subsection B, Paragraph 12.

"Any charlatan cigar smoker who sneaks his cigarettes back into his pocket at the first sign that quality cigars are to be offered, only then to blasphemingly stub it out leaving over half left, maybe left open to future trickery to stop any further wanton waste of the sacred leaf."

Vegas Robaina Famosos...if you have more time, go for the Vegas Robaina Don Alejandro.

Anything Monte (except Open) spice and cream should compliment well.

Have you considered puting a Castella band on the Cohiba and seeing what reaction you get.

I trust that you will be drinking something suitable...

Agreed. The few VR's I've smoked have been pretty chocolatey, so something from them.

Any Bolivar, nice and tasty after a spicy meal. Or a R&J Cazadores. VR are too mild to smoke after a heraty meal imo

                              Yes, we will,
However, He'll be drinking a bottle of Lambrusco that I've poured into a empty bottle of Chassagne-Montrachet 2003.
