here in texas they have banned smoking in bars,clubs,etc.now for a couple of years,it all started in california and spread like wildfire.

I really admire the nanny state firmness with which the ban is implemented in the UK.

The problem with relying on "nanny states" is it pre-suppose that nannies do actually know best. They certainly know how to claim their expenses & send young men needlessly to their deaths but can't regulate banks or find WMDs and their attitude towards cannabis makes the most hopeless stoner appear like Solomon.

When they can do really important things well such as run a health service with some efficiently or provide an effective education system, then maybe we would take them seriously when they try to restrict our freedoms.

then you end up with a mess. like in Germany, where I come from and spend much of my time. there's utter confusion. in some federal states you can smoke in restaurants, in some you can't etc. everyone seems able to find a way around the ban. Germany is in the hands of the cigarettes lobby, seriously. the decline of cigar culture is a regrettable but necessary collateral damage in the war against cigarettes.
