With this set up I open a couple of zip locks every 4-6 weeks just to check that everything is ok. I'm sure I could leave them longer but this is more for my peace of mind than anything else.

Muchacho, couldn't you just do the so-called "pinch test" without opening the bag?

question for you guys who use the wine coolers.. Have you gone out and bought the very expensive models i.e ?700+ or are you using the cheaper temp controled versions found on ebay and the like i.e ?100+. I may think about investing in one of these longer term as I'm now starting to build a bit of a collection so it will be
inevitable that i will age some.

I have an old cube beer fridge which I've been using as my humidor overflow and quarantine area. It has an airtight seal and is insulated and out of direct sunlight so the temperature hardly ever changes. Because it is sealed it keeps a perfect humidity level as well. My advice is buy as big as you need but don't worry about the temperature as it won't change much inside the insulated box.

I use a wine cooler and it works superbly. Paid $219AU for it so I think thats about 150UK. Temp gets way up here in summer so it was necessary. Dont regret it for a minute.

Bought a Husky for ?100. Works a treat in keeping the temp at an even 18 degrees c.

my 'ready so smoke' selection are checked daily in my desktop humi
the ones im storing away are in a tuppa that get looked at maybe weekly..bi weekly?

When you first start out in the wonderful world of Gars its all the dabbling with humidity ,Temp and viewing in general . So my BOTL enjoy your precious time with your new found passion. If your still at it in 10 + years you'll be just like the rest of us Ole' timers, Buy and smoke with very little regard for anything else. Then you'll have too many cigars to worry about all the pampering. Enjoy and smoke the best cause you mite not wake up then all the best go to the wifies new boyfriend or the trash.

I'm up to 5,000 sticks and only check the cigars when I'm trying to decide what to smoke or give away.
