Does anyone quarantine new cigars before they add to the collection with other cigars? Mainly to ensure there are no bugs?

Nope. If I'm unsure of the provenance or if they come directly from Cuba they go into the freezer.

Same. It has been known though for some people to go a bit stir crazy and freeze their entire collection!

Anything direct from Cuba, Spain, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic etc get frozen before being allowed into my humis.

Sounds a bit like our current situation anything coming in from suspect countries needs 14 isolation.

Is it a given that if not frozen, bugs will hatch? Or do you have to be unlucky?

I’d say you’d have to be unlucky, but it’s Not that uncommon. Although in theory all cigars coming to Europe should have been pre frozen. I’d say if the climate is worm and humid ie Spain freeze them.

Don’t just stick them in the freezer though. I do 3 days in the fridge, 3 days in the freezer followed by another 3 in the fridge. Make sure they are in airtight bags and the don’t come into direct contact with any ice.
