Hello guys!

How do you handle the cigars bugs issue?

I am new to cigar smoking, started a couple of months ago.

Been storing my singles to jars with boveda up until now.
I just purchased my two first boxes and a 74L scuba box.

I was told that the best way to be sure about the bugs is to put the cigars in the refridgerator for a day and then to the fridge for a day before storing them in your humidor.
it this the proper drill?

If you’re buying from anywhere outside of Cuba they have been frozen for export before sale so should be fine.

Some hot countries like Spain could have reintroduced them though to the sticks if you’d bought them there.

Generally from most sources it’s a non issue though

My perspective on cigar bugs is they are very rare but do occur. They one guy that sees a hole will post it. So we're all likely to see it. I've yet to see a hole let alone a crawly!

Freeze any custom rolls. Open any sealed boxes and check. Freeze everything if you worry too much. Habanos freeze everything before export. Not sure about all the other cigar makers/distributers.

But there are very rare in my experience.

And I suggest keeping cigars at no more than 70%/70F which we can do over here pretty easily most of the time.

So what do I do about them. Nothing much.

In the very short period of time that I have been smoking cigars, I tried 65% & 69% humidity.
For now I will stick to 69% and if I get to the point where I will be buying boxes solely for ageing, I will keep them at 65%.
I am talking about cubans only.

No custom rolls for now and only a handful of non.
I prefer to stick to the cubans for the time being.

Temperature is part I worry about the most.
I live in Greece where the summer lasts for 5 or so months and I have a sixth floor apartment in the city centre.

During autumn-winter the temperature is always 21-22C (70F) but during summer it might be 26-27C (80F) when the A/C is off.

Yes.

Never come across one, but I’ve always been if the opinion a little extra protein never did anyone any harm.
