  • Plain packaging

Couple of pics of some plain packaging from Canada. As well as the bands, apparently the boxes can't be used so plain cardboard boxes are used instead.

Hopefully this is not coming any time soon..... There is talk this is killing off shops. Perhaps that's the idea.

I think I may finally have this CAD under control...

Horrendous, hopefully our cigar retailers are strong enough to stand up to this.

At least they have the original bands underneath, I thought they were removing them completely.

Ireland and Singapore have already got this and Netherlands start of the year I believe definitely looks like its going to be getting more common. At least the U.K. and are our nearer neighbours said no at least for now. There’ll be more changes here too at some point towards this smoke free by 2030 target that won’t happen too.

It’s off-putting in a shop but I don’t mind just slipping them off as it’s not like I really look at cigars in open boxes on display anyway

So no original box?! Hopefully I misunderstood... No one wants to buy a cardboard cab 🤮

I don't see the band covers as an issue as long as they are just that and are easily removed.

This article mentions 300,000 cigar smokers in the UK back in 2014 https://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...k-9049934.html

              Which is 0.6%.

Smoke free aims for less that 5%. this report what ever it is https://www.smokinginbritain.co.uk/download?id=24 and the gov paper https://assets.publishing.service.go...ke-free-pf.pdf don't mention the word cigar.

Until they distinguish there will be worse news.

There’s no way they’ll hit the 5% by end of the decade without some other major changes. Which I suspect they’ll want to at least show they’re doing. We’ll have to see what happens as we’re already one of the countries with lower smoking rates and have excluded cigars previously from the packaging ban.

No box you’re not allowed to just put the wooden box in cardboard sadly.

Only advantage would be no added weight if someone was legally importing so should pay the correct tax not taxed on the box

Glad I already have enough cigars to see me out!

What is the rationale behind this? Surely no one can really believe the colourful labels tempt folk to purchase.....?

Marketing does work and it’s all about discouraging smoking the plain labels do look cheaper and no display boxes or cabs will certainly make cigars less collectible which all feeds into discouraging people getting started. Those of us who already enjoy cigars and it’s just about that enjoyment are unlikely to be effected in the same way though, but spending good money and getting something that looks like that will annoy many hopefully we can just go bandless again instead

I think they worry that cigarette smokers will switch to 20 cigars a day instead.
