NC humidity

I’m sure this would have come up before but I can’t seem to find it… is everyone storing their NCs and Cubans at different humidity? I have acquired enough NCs lately to necessitate a new tupperdore; I always store Cubans at 65% or slightly lower- should I just do the same with my NCs? Does it really make a difference? Thanks in advance

The Yanks tend to favour 70% but I keep mine at the same as my Cubans with no issues whatsoever.

Thought as much… I’ve always had singles mixed in with the Cubans and they’ve seemed none the worse for it. Thanks for the reply

65 for me too, and on the American forums they do 65 or 62.

I started with 69 for all, shifted the CCs to 65 after seeing the benefits. Don’t see any real change to NCs between 69 an 65 so they’re at 69 as is longer term box storage.

Higher humidity is very common for NCs but I don’t see the benefit

My NC humidor tracks at a consistent 66% whereas my CC humidor tracks consistently at 63%

I’m just going to store them as I do my CCs. I’d be very surprised if I can notice a difference but will increase the humidity for them if I do

Here's a thought for you N.C. lovers to consider: It's well acknowledged that NC's usually have a looser draw than Cuban's (when both are well constructed), one of the reasons if you started on C.C.'s that can put you off them. Perhaps by keeping nearer the 70% mark, this allows the leaves to swell a little more & thus improve the draw? Rather than C.C.'s being kept drier to also improve the draw & for longer term ageing. Any thoughts?

That’s a neat observation Simon. I’d concur that generally the NCs I’ve had have been looser and punch them as a result. Personally I’ve found at the higher humidity they tend to produce more smoke (damp wood smokes on a fire vs tinder dry). Higher humidity would also reduce the looseness of draw, sound logic.

Why don’t you get a humidor full of NC’s Simon to compare 🤪?
