I don't think these will go up in value. Even the 2011 Cohiba 1966 hasn't reached $300 and it's a stone cold classic.
I'm still going to chase REs and LEs but not if they're Cohiba or Trinidad

A box sold for $2700 at auction in April before all these crazy rises took off, add on the buyers fee of 15% and its just over $3000 for a box of 10.

Confirmed, starting to sell at $300 a stick 😮

In the immediate aftermath of Cuba’s sweeping price hikes, the new cigar will carry a price tag more commonly found on vintage smokes than on new releases. | Cigar Aficionado

Probably destined to be photographed on Instagram and never smoked.

Logiclaly, I'd guess they think it will make more in future. But like you , I doubt anyone will end up smoking them. The rollers who got paid peanuts must be sick when they see these crazy numbers.

They were on $20 a month a few years back apparently. No wonder they are all leaving.

I've been away from the hobby the last year or two, prices have literally more than doubled!

Who can afford to smoke them at these prices?

Tripled in some cases. Literally since May in the UK. Across Europe these new prices came in, in June. So bad timing for Cubans. Although only the premium brands, cigars have increased to these levels. The regular production, regular brands (Not Cohiba, Trinidad) have had much smaller increases - although another coming in October apparently. Montecristo, Partagás, and Romeo y Julieta are also raising the prices i think.

At these prices? That remains to be seen.....
                          .--
I think I may finally have this CAD under control...

It’s crazy Banos, I’m literally priced out the market.
I haven’t paid attention to NC’s, have they been affected as well?
some of my favourites, Partagas SD4’s for instance will no longer be in my price range so when my stocks gone that’s it.

I do have some LE’s including Talisman, they’re worth crazy money now. Can’t bring myself to smoke them

There’s Patek-Longines-Seiko, Hermes-Hugo Boss-Gap, Fat Duck-River Cafe-Nandos, etc etc etc. I think this type of segmentation is normal in almost any industry, especially discretionary luxury like cigars.

It’s about finding your comfort zone and getting on with it. These prices probably aren’t going anywhere - unless by some miracle people stop buying Cohiba/Trinidad which ain’t going to happen because frankly there’s always a level of person that simply doesn’t give a shit for the cost if they want something.

At the same time I’m sure there’s loads of sticks at a fine price out there that are just as good as any stick we’ve tried and loved before. It’s just about discovering it I guess.

Let’s not forget that this is especially now a very premium habit (if it hasn’t always been so??) so griping about the price is likely just taking away from the enjoyment of having a delicious smoke with a couple of hours of peaceful time to reflect on the way the world is turning around you.
