  • Maduro or no Maduro

After smoking cigars for almost 1 year now and having tried allsorts of Brands/Vitolas/ Leaf I think I have come to the conclusion that I don't really enjoy the majority of Maduro cigars I can't quite put my finger on why maybe just too powerful 😅.

What is everyone else's experience with Maduro smokes

im a fan, i haven't tried loads but my favorite (of what i have tried) is the flor de copan rothchild maduro it's extremely smooth and tasty..i would say mild to medium. Just a solid go-to smoke for me. never had a bad one.

I may give it a try if I can find them haha I don't know if it's me but most of the ones I have had have been knock your socks off strength I did enjoy the NUB Maduro as that wasn't a super strength smoke but the others I have had are, suppose it could be I just haven't adjusted to STRONG smokes I quite like a medium over full bodied and I haven't found that in a Maduro personally

I've tried a few of the highly rated ones like Le Careme, Tabernacle, Roma Craft, Mi Querida and while some have some sweetness they are a bit much on the dark side for me, dark cacao or coffee, which are not to my taste.

I love Maduro wrappers particularly San Andreas, like all cigars they vary massively though. Maduro doesn’t have to have a link to being strong, it’s used to add sweetness generally (though sometimes that is to balance a stronger smoke) though especially with NC I do prefer a fuller flavour.

The sweetness on the lips really adds something to the cigar experience for me and a rough Maduro wrapper is enough of a buying sign for me.

But we all have our own tastes same as why we generally pay no attention to ratings and learn what works for us it varies heavily. Only wrappers I avoid are Candela

You should have called this thread "Maduro or Madur-no!"

PS - I am quite open to them. As far as I know, the darker the wrapper doesn't necessarily mean it is stronger. Overall though I prefer a colorado wrapper from an aesthetic point of view.

Maduro just means aged. It all depends on what leaf has been aged. They're not strong because of the colour of the wrapper.

There's some samplers around that give you the same cigar with 5 different wrappers. Great exercise to learn more about the difference the wrapper leaf makes.

The Pichardo Maduro for example is mild and smooth.

Ahh ok I didn't know that guess I just picked the super strong ones.

I don't think those kind of samplers are available here in good old England would be good to try one but I wouldn't know where to source

Sorry missed this guess I know nothing still haha so that's where the sweetness comes from sometimes that sweetness can taste artificial I didn't know it came from the wrappers.

I too pay no attention to ratings same as whisky Laphroaig is highly rated but I only taste peat so I ignore all ratings.

What is your reason for disliking a Candela wrapper don't think I have tried this one or atleast I didn't know if i have

They are not so strong but more have dark flavours of cacoa or coffee or earth, the Tabernacle and Mi Querida have a red label spicy equivalent that is peppery, even chilli-ish.

In the UK the best maduros I find are the Undercrown 10, more sweet and richer than the plain maduro, Liga Unico and Privada, and Rocky Patel ALR Second edition, and the Oliva and Plasencia's are highly regarded but sometimes a bit too earthy for me.

No bother, yes ratings of the majority of known raters conveniently weight towards sponsors too which is the main reason most don’t trust them.

Too grassy in taste basically and often too mild for me
