    Evening all!

So i have family in the US and they always rave about the Montecristo, Cohiba and H Upmann cigars made in Nicaragua - but I have never seen them for sale in the UK.

I was wondering first of all why? But also has anyone tried any other them - I heard good things after the Montecristo White Series.. but will probably have to wait till holibobs to get any..

I am not complaining about having access to the Cuban varieties but with the price increase and lack of stock.. may it’s time to try some of their related brands.

It's all about copyright. When the cigar companies fled Cuba after the revolution they took with them the right to use the names (except Cohiba, that's another story) but owing to copyright laws they can't use those names in Europe hence you get Cuban and non-Cuban cigars with the same names. You can buy Montecristo Whites at Boisdales although I have never understood how. Dominican Romeo y Julieta are very good and I have about four different sizes. Non-Cuban Cohibas tend to be shite.

If you are after some cheaper nc alternatives than cubans you will find plenty of better options than the nc namesakes. They tend to be pretty average with the odd exception and difficult to acquire here.

Go for some other boutique nc brands like romacraft, leaf by oscar, aj fernandes, caldwell etc etc. They are similarly priced and just better cigars imo.

        Don’t worry - I do like NA brands - AJ F especially.

I was just curious as my family have mentioned them several times and have never seen them for sale over here.
