  • UK tobacco track and trace

Let see if they have this IT system straight... Tor put out a video yesterday about this. All movement of tobacco products in the UK up to the final retail outlet must be scanned. The supplier must scan when transferring to the final retail outlet. But no scanning necessary when we buy. 2 years to dispose of older untagged stock.

ACS provides guidance on track and trace regulations, but we are not responsible for registering retailers or providing codes. Tobacco Track and Trace: Transition to new IT Provider What has happened?

Maybe I'm missing the point but it seems a completely useless waste of time, energy and resources to do this.

I don't understand the purpose? Or am I just dumb

Crack down on grey market selling as well as counterfeit tobacco, would be my guess.

Also likely essential if they do really plan on bringing in that legislation for age restriction. It will certainly drive more profits into the grey market otherwise

Do they really think grey market is going to be sold at Tesco?

The guys who obey the rules will get screwed with extra process and the grey operators will be laughing their asses off taking extra margin and increased demand.

Fucking bureaucrats need to get off their asses and take a real walk down a real street and actually see how the country works.

Yup. But means we need more bureaucrats and people to check the track and trace ... so someone wins at least.

<sarcastic> in case anyone was wondering

Oh yeah, absolutely. You follow the money on this one, and the contract for the tech and upkeep will lead you back to an MP or a party donor, for fucking sure. It's all snouts in the trough when it comes to public spending.

I'll tell the local shopkeeper to be extra vigilant who he sells cigarettes to out of the whisky boxes...

The cost is probably you have to be close friends with the likes of Jacob or Nigel etc.

Lads, don't fret. We'll just pay for the extra processes and red tape at the point of sale or more taxes…yay!
