  • Beginner starter pack

    Hello all,

    Happy Sunday.

I am doing some shopping around to put together a beginner starter pack for myself, and I wondered what people think of this pack

I plan to get all the accessories I need, including 3-5 cigars (ideal for a first-time cigar smoker), for as close to £100 as possible.

Nothing against CGars, but Smoke King do a yearly delivery option (was £19.99) that I took up so anything over £10 has free delivery. Great for ordering single sticks to try out

You'll also find prices abroad are quite a bit cheaper than any if these UK vendors which is why most people stock up while on holiday or sometimes organise a little day trip. Even with the cost of flights some decent savings can be made

Decent starter set of cigars and while the jet lighter will be just fine, those plastic cutters can sometimes make a mess of cigars (speaking from experience). Worth investing in a decent one (I've had a Germanus version) which has served me well until I can justify a genuine Xikar or Colibri one

Cigar_Addict Thanks. I have seen Smoke King's deal. I don't want to invest too much in case I don't take to cigars, so I'm not looking to get into any subscriptions yet. But may do some more comparisons. Thank you for the heads up re the cutter.

I think you could do better than that one. How about this one? Three thoroughly decent entry level Cuban cigars and they're in tubos which helps with the storage side of things. I'm sure the site will provide you with a cheap jet lighter and cigar cutter if you have a look there or message them .

You could put something together at GQ like this
I'd suggest swaps such as Bolivar Petit Corona, Montecristo No 4 or Sancho Panza Non Plus depending what you fancy trying of the below.
Should give you a good mix of the flavours available.
            Shipping is free over £75.

That's a great suggestion there, although I personally wouldn't recommend a Juan Lopez no2 to a newbie. It'll blow their head off!

But certainly have a look on My Smoking shop and GQ tobacco. They are probably the two cheapest priced online retailers in the UK.

Thank you. I didn't know about My Smoking and GQ, so I will have a look today if I can.

So this is what I have come up with:

And I will pick up an ashtray from Amazon.

Another quick question: What kind of butane do people use, and where do you get it from?

I've got a can of Colibri butane - can't remember where I got it from. I wouldn't worry about it for now however as the lighter will last a while before it needs refilling.

Apparently extra refined is best for lighters. Got a Clipper from local news agents. And have a Xikar from cgars.
                          .--
I think I may finally have this CAD under control...
