  • Belgium Banning Smoking at Terraces, Cigar Lounges & More

Smoking at terraces: not allowed. Smoking in cigar lounges: not allowed. Smoking rooms in airports: not allowed. Smoking rooms in prison: allowed.

RIP Belgium. The ongoing tirade from governments on this topic. Wonder where this leaves the Belgian cigar smokers? At home I guess.

That's not good. My pal was recently in Brussels and he said all the cigar shops wouldn't even let you in the humidors. They would show you a printed list and that was it. You aren't even allowed to peek inside. FFS

After reading the article I can't tell if you're allowed to smoke outside bars. Not sure what the definition of terraces is?!

That's what I was left wondering! But I'm a pessimist given all the government policies related to this. Look across other countries. Can't smoke anywhere in public spaces over time is my full expectation. Anywhere where there may be other people. Draconian. No exceptions. Vote winner.

I don't know anybody who supports that kind of fascism. I'm not sure it is a vote winner and the politicians aren't doing for that reason, they don't care if they are supported or not.

I don't get the impression politicians do anything other than for personal gain and to stay in power. Anti smoking certainly seems to be the popular opinion. And there's very little care from the masses to separate cigars from cigarettes. Especially as seen more and more as a high luxury item nowadays thanks to pricing. So no sympathy there. There's too much political incursion. They should focus on wealth inequality, national economy, crime, corruption and services. Leave us alone.

This will be devastating for Belgian cafes as no smoking in English pubs was.
Terraces will mean any outside tables/seats. The bigger smokers are the biggest drinkers & users of cafes. It was my main enjoyment living in Belgium for 30yrs, was the cafe culture. My local built a glass house inside the cafe, with extraction, for smokers. Others had glass extensions. COVID ended that & after Covid, they never relaxed the law.

NO smoking before you buy in cigar shops either, won't help their business either.

This isn't being pushed by the people but a few tossers across all parties, in a nanny state.

I'm glad we moved to England. Sure, it'll happen here eventually, but at least I have my own Cigar lounge.

Spain is considering the same thing but their bar owners and restauranteurs are pushing back. Cyprus here I come!

We were told in a couple of restaurants in geneva that we could mot smoke cigars or pipes so we had dinner and left to find a smoking area
