Box Consistency?

What is your experience with box purchases? With what I've read on various forums & websites about inconsistency of sticks, is buying 3's or 10's better than a box of 25? I'd love to be confident that each stick from a box purchase would bang, but the more I read the more it seems like a fair amount of any box are questionable. Does this ring true with you guys or is it more likely you get what you expect, with one or two mediocre cigars from a full box?

I honestly don't think it's any more likely these days that you'll get a better return from a well known factory. It's been said for many years, if you get less than 4 duds in a box you're doing well.

I think your dry boxing experiment is interesting.

Given we're hearing the exodus of rollers from Cuba, prisoners rolling cigars, the general state of the nation. It's a wonder they can get anything out. Let alone the likes of the Montecristo Elba.

And maybe that's it. For the last few years now focus on the premium end of the ranges?

I don't think I'll be able to offer any kind of valuable feedback, but if it improves my enjoyment then I'll take it as a win. Promising signs though

Anecdotally I've found that new product releases tend to be better at the start of production, probably because they want to make a good impression on those first reviews and launch events.

Likewise that boxes and cabs tend to contain better cigars than those 3 or 5 cardboard packs. I suspect again that it's because those boxes will often be sold open in stores as singles, whereas the boxes are a gamble until you tear them open.

We're assuming that you're talking about Cubans because those issues don't appear to exist with NC boxes.

Whether this is coincidence, to save tobacco or to have less duds by way of plugged cigars I couldn't say but you can smoke a loose cigar slowly, you can't save a plugged one.

We're assuming that you're talking about Cubans because those issues don't appear to exist with NC boxes.

I’ve had some issues with inconsistencies among Fuente & newer Davidoff releases. I know some other people have as well, think it’s a case of brands not being able to keep up with demand. The issues of consistency are certainly worse with Cubans though, Tubos tend the be better than normal cardboard boxes.
