Well, there are many species of cedar, and only Spanish Cedar (cedrela odorata) has a relation to us cigar smokers. Most other species - especially red cedar are much too fragrant to use for humidor/cigar storage.
This looks like red cedar to me.

Spanish cedar isn't a cedar at all - it's a completely different genus (Cedrela) to red cedar (Thuja) or cedar of Lebanon (Cedrus) and is much closer to mahogany than the others which are conifers. I wouldn't put cigars anywhere near actual cedar wood as the natural oils in them will taint the tobacco.

Well thank god for this forum. While I'm sure he knows enough about wood, unlikely he's aware of it's effect on cigars?

So I shouldn't ask him to make me some humidor trays then 😬
