Right, in about 4-5 weeks I and my wife shall be celebrating the birth of our first child and in honour of this exciting occasion I am thinking of purchasing a box (maybe 2) of cigars to help me celebrate now and over the next few years.

Now I am partial to slightly slimmer cigars and have been toying with the idea of either a box of Montecristo D Limted Edition's or a box of Trinidad Ingenios Limited Edition's and was hoping that anyone who has smoked one or both of these cigars could give me an opinion or two, either negative or positive to help me decide.

    Many thanks in advance.

    hey gary,
congratulations to you and your missus!!! i'll have to get you a cigar to celebrate this wonderful occasion (btw, according to the map thing on this, you basically live down the road from me anyway)!!!

if you don't mind me asking, why the monte d and trini ingenios? both cigars don't exactly get rave reviews!!! i've had 2 trini ingenious el2007 to celebrate my son's birthday (he was born on the 07.07.2007) and they were just, well......meh!!! i've had a couple of the HDM regalios el2007 that were great!!! what about a box of monte especial no.1's, trini fundadores (they come in 12's or 24's), or partagas 898v's (10's or 25's)?? personally, i'd go for the monte especials!!! you could also hold out for a box of the 2011 EL's, though i do believe they're all big ring gauges!!! not sure if this helps you any.......

    all the best mate,

    alex

Tried them both and the Trini would get my vote. Not a lover of this particular Vitola, but this was a great smoke.

I don't care for either but love the regular Monte 1's with a couple of years and the Boli Gold Medals.

Hey thanks for the replies so far! Alex I simply chose the Monte D's and the Trinis Ingenious because they're slimmer smokes than a lot of cigars being produced lately and I really prefer them than something of say a 52 or 54 ring gauge. I have also considered the Partagas 8-9-8 Unvarnished and the Monte Especial's,while only the other day I bought a handful of Trinidad Fun's off a fellow forum member (not sure if I'm allowed to say who???) which look and smell great, so I've a few choices . Also tried the HdM Regalios 2007 a couple of years ago and loved it, in fact in Barcelona a couple of years ago they were 100 Euro for a box of ten and I've regretted ever since not buying them.

Anyway cheers for the suggestions, I'll let you know what I eventually go for if I can make my mind up!

                hey gary,
i know what you mean, i'm starting to appreciate/ prefer slimmer ring gauges more nowadays than the big cigars habanos seems intent on pushing, especially monte especials, trini fundadores, party 898v's etc!!! i just had my last punch punch tonight, which was great!!! also, i gotta remain hush hush, but i've got some bolivar especial no.2's (german RE's) coming soon thanks to the generosity of a fellow forum member!!!

anyway, do let me know what you go for......

                take care pal,

Tried both and thought both were a bit so-so. As SR says up top, the Fundadore is a top-notch smoke. Hard to beat.
The Cohiba Lancero is my fave of the slimmer smokes

I quite like the Ingenios, a very grassy smoke, almost unique in its profile. These tend to get slated so I might be on my own here.
Favorite skinny smoke is the ERDM Grandes De Espana, quality smoke if you can find them.

Again thanks for all the replies, seeing the general consensus of these two smokes (bar one or two) seems to be that they are just average I might have to think again due to the importance of the occasion . I'm also thinking about a jar of the H. Upmann Noellas, this size is perfect for me! Anyone tried any? Tell me, do those jars act like humidors themselves or do they need stored in a humidor?

Is there anything that you could get from 2011 production that age well to save for their 18th birthday? Assuming its a boy, otherwise keep till her wedding day. This would be great as a surprise when the occasion arrives.

I think a jar of the Upmann Noellas may be a really good idea for this. I think they will age well and be really nice for the occasion.
