to keen on cigars with a heavy nicotine hit. NCs can be the worst offenders, Cain and some Tats in particular, when some really good flavour in the mouth is accompanied by a kick in the head.

Strangely, for the most part I'm OK with Cubans, even Boli's though I haven't tried a BF yet. For me so far, the GM strikes a perfect balance between depth of flavour and smoking comfort. I get along with all of the Cuban 2s and most of the robustos .... any recommendations for a perfectly balanced bigger smoke?

I agree with you on the Cain front, I tried a Cain 654T a short time ago, started very mild and slow, toward the end of the first 3rd some flavours started to creep in and promised more, nothing could have prepared me for the huge hit in the last third though, even after a big meal it had my head spinning.

Hmmm, best balanced big smoke, got me thinking now, my benchmark smoke for balance of flavour is always a Partagas SD4, never had a bad one yet.

Just re-visiting some 05's that I put by, the nicotine hit seems significantly mellower now (a typical aging effect?), the benefit being that the subtler flavour elements are shining through in a way they didn't before.

I just have to be patient with the Lusitania's now.

+1 for Siglo VI and PSD4. Also I think the BHK 52 does very well at being extremely complex without blowing your head off with nicotine, or the 54 if you're wanting something bigger? Obviously the price is a bit strong tho ! Also, its been a while since I had one, but I seem to remember to JLSS being surprisingly interesting for quite a mild smoke.

The Lusis are really good when aged. I had some at the beginning of last year with about 3 years on them. Superb.
Just hope my 2008 Sir Winstons are as good when I get round to them.

So true! They were the first smokes that really got me into CCs and I've tried practically every brand, shape and size in the passing years and now I've come full circle back to Upmann...I adore them. They're my desert island smoke...especially the 46!!
