  • Exchange of aroma/flavour

    Hi all,

Was thinking to myself about the exchange of flavour/aroma between different cigars when stored alongside each other and was wondering a couple of things:

1.) are people generally not that bothered by this

    and

2.) does anyone store different cigars alongside each other specifically to exchange flavour/aroma to add another dimension to sticks when they are eventually smoked?

There are strict "Purity Laws " that govern which cigars are (and 'are not') allowed to co-mingle.

On NO account mix your 'Cuban' cigars with inferior 'Non-Cuban'.

The penalties are quite severe... and involve an (ugly) mob, a rope and a tree.

    You have been 'warned'.
    Have a nice day.

I think it only really matters if you are keeping sticks stored next to each other for years, ones in a desktop humi that are ready to smoke will be fine.

Saying that I always put some cedar strips (taken from the pieces you get in cigar boxes) between any two bundles.

For everyday smoking it is fine, for long term ageing they should be separated.

Just avoid any kind of flavoured cigars being in the same humi as your reg CC and nonCCs.

E.g. your Acid Kuba Kuba should be stored in the bin.

                Party Pooper!

Can you imagine all the emoticon-cartoon-018.gifTru Believers trying to keep their multiple sticks seperated in a 50 ctn humi??? Not to mention all those flavored stogies favored by knewbees! emoticon-cartoon-013.gif

But seriously folks, senor smokey is a wise old sagesmiley-computer002.gif and speaks the truth.

Hey el Perro! I think each stick should have its own humi!

(Hurumph!) You would, blu-balls! Now, go find me a left-handed screw driver and a snipe while you're at it.

I'd tend to steer clear of flavoured cigars tbh, but thanks for the heads up ;0

I'd say keep them seperate, I split mine up using tuppaware containers rather than storing them together. I found that cigars of lesser quality or the roughest taste will ruin the others, everything will sink to the lowest common denominator. That's just my opinion though and I'm sure others have had different experiences.

Very strong position and certainly not my experience for short-term storage. Just out of interest why would your 'lesser quality' cigars drag everyone else down, could it not happen in reverse?

I had some nice cigars and bought some puritos that didn't taste too good but I left them in the humidor. I found that the general quality of all my cigars dropped whereas the puritos still tasted bad. It was my mistake I suppose putting cigars of lesser quality in there and to make sure it doesn't happen again I'm using tuppaware since the containers are so cheap and beads will hold the RH perfectly.

Maybe it's just me being a cigar nazi but it keeps me happy and allows me to sleep well at night.

                              That's a plan of genius!!

Simply buy a single quality Cuban (such as the Monte A mentioned or maybe a nice Behike) and store it together with about 500 cheap machine made rubbish sticks or a few boxes of glass top Fauxhibas and simply wait while the quality oozes out of your finest Puro into each and every dodgy stick and bingo! - a quality selection of cigars on a budget. Can't fail.....
