I did buy a few fakes for comparison - I talked about it in an old thread (with photos). Perhaps that's why my story sounded so convincing - it was 90% true

All remaining fakes are in their own special humidor incase of the appearance of beetles.

Senor butterbrickle, I too collect counterfeit puros, specializing in glass top fauxhibas. I even auctioned off a box of these some time ago on this forum which generated quite a bit of interest. Unfortunately, the winner blew his mind out in a car and no longer participates on this fine forum.

How do you find the fakes generally? The ones I encountered were of a high quality of construction. Labels varied in quality but the cigars looked good. All long filler too.

Are there good fakes? How would I know a good one from a bad one? where would I get them from?

I'm going to Cuba in a few weeks and though I'm not planning on wasting my allowance on fakes I might try some whilst there if I'm offered any.

I have a wish list all prepared, I just hope that I can get what I want as I understand that not all shops have extensive stocks.

I went last year and was offered the chance to try one of the cigars that Cubans get with their rations allowance. I was told they were bad so didn't bother, I will this year if I get the chance.

I was offered fakes many times but only actually viewed them twice. Once behind the Partagas factory (poor quality) and once on a farm in Pinar del Rio (good quality). I don't know if there are any rules for discovering good vs bad fakes. For me it was pretty obvious to look at them. Also, the guys selling the good ones were confident enough to let me smoke one.
