        Craig

        Thank you My Man!

Two El Rey del Mundo beauties out of the sleeping packet from Deal Post Office.

I have not had a cigar since last Tuesday. I have spent most of the last week in Derbyshire at my in-laws' house with my closest. I loaded up my travel humi with some fat bastards for a decent smoking opportunity. I took my load with me to my friends' house where we ate. She (my friend) randomly started a conversation about how a smoker she knows is having cancer treatment on the NHS and SMOKES and how it shouldn't be allowed. My friend knows I love Havanas, so I took this as a sign that I shouldn't smoke there and thought Fuck That by the end of the meal anyway.

My in-laws live in a Miss Marple village. They are wonderful people who don't know what smoking is. They had to be driven everywhere by us as he is too old to do that himself now. One afternoon they all drove off to buy a bird table from a garden centre and I settled myself in their summer house overlooking the village church with my light in my hand and my D4 fat and tasty in my mouth.

        But I bottled out.

I just thought I can't fume up the wall and floors of a special place of one infirm.

So my cigars have been on a 500 mile trip with me.

Craig - I'm throwing etiquette to the wind. I'm not resting or otherwise lubing up these unboxed cigars. One of them will be my re-introduction to cigar blitzing after nearly a week off the drugs.

I tell you something. I know I could give this habit up really easily because I haven't had the bends or rigor mortis once, and I haven't had perverted cigar dreams, either.

But it's time to enjoy one again.

And with yours, Craig, the brown territory is today a virgin's.

        Many thanks, Sir.

          PS

My in-laws looked at some pictures we took the week before last when shuffling around in Brussels. In one picture, I'm standing outside Davidoff with my head in the air looking sexually satisfied.

There was some chat about what I was doing in front of a shop window with hookahs, cigars and pipes. And why I looked blissful.

At the end of some joshing - which, de-coded, meant "He smokes cigars" - my mother-in-law tickled the bare sole of my right foot as if to say Get You! or Oooh Betty!

With some people, you reach an understanding without having to mouth the boredom of the truth. A deep meaning in a foot-tickling gesture.

I was in a novel. I was 50. I was accepted as the real me.

I once saw my wife's brother utterly randomly pull out an impressive pipe at my in-laws' home, tamp it up with countryside hedgerows, pull and blast a fucking stadium of smoke through their living room, and nearly kill everyone within whiffing distance.

My in-laws are not those nagging English sorts who disapprove of everything. They sat rather stoically, made no comment and sort of died in the fug.

I just don't know whether to light up in circumstances like these, but they are such sweet people, my in-laws.

If they were gits, I'd probably Havana honk them without giving it a second thought.

And now I'm off with a strong brew to sit in the shady quiet of my own back garden and I'm sexing up with El Rey del Mundo.

          Welcome back to Havana bliss.

          Cheers again, Craig.
