Montecristo No. 2

The other day I thought it'll be nice to go to the pub and have a montecristo no. 2. My first thoughts was it looks great and clipped well for a torpedo end. Upon lighting it I got the traditional earthy taste, which was expected from the Montecristo range.

First third: earthy texture with a constant mild spice flavour which I enjoyed, disappeared for a while then came back for the 2nd third. During which it flucuated between spice and cream which I thought was a little odd but still enjoyed it none-the-less.

Into the last third: cream flavour had gone and the spice got out of hand, a very sickly taste. It put me right off finishing it as it left me feeling sorry for myself! Overall, a great mighty cigar, just a tad spicy for my liking, however it burned nice and even. Didn't have to relight. If I get the Monty no. 2 again it will stay in the humidor for a lot longer!

I have one of these sitting in my humidor. I'm quite looking forward to it, but i'm making myself wait for it to age some.

Monte No2's IMHO are one of the best normal production Havanas. Best way to enjoy them, first patiently age a while, at least 3yrs but 5-10 is ticky-boo. Smoke slowly after a full meal. Jeez, i can't let that thing sit in my humidor for 3 years lol. I'm gonna try and leave it for at least one year, but we'll see what happens .

Having said that, i'm having a ten years aged Saint Luis Rey Churchill right as i type this. It's not bad, but the b*$tard keeps going out

Ahh, the impatience of youth! The trick is first see if you can find older stock than 2011/10 to start with, secondly build up your stock slowly so you have 2-3 x more than you are likely to smoke in a year. Sounds a big deal when you have a 50 stix humi but looking back, you'll surprise yourself how easy it was to build up a decent collection & then you'll save many smoking your own aged cigars, instead paying through the nose for LE's with a couple of yrs on them!

That is exactly it. So far, i only have enough cigars to fill my large shoebox sized humidor. I'm buying them quicker than i'm smoking them, so it will eventually get easier. The main issue is that i don't want to wait several years to find out if i even like a cigar before buying more and ageing them for several more years . On the other hand, knowing how much i love the Partagas P2's, i have a few in my humidor which i'm going to age patiently.

Where it comes to pre-aged cigars, i haven't really found many of the best of the best if you know what i mean. It's hard to find pre-aged singles. I have bought a few pre-aged Cubans, and strangely have found them to be cheaper than buying them fresh

Some sticks can really be totally transformed with a good ageing.

Also, It gives you the oppotunity to go off and try new smokes!

Monte 2s are excellent smokes especially with a wee bit age on them. Great stick that you can always rely on. Never had a duff one
