Quai d?Orsay Robusto Embajador 2011 ER France
Size: 155 x 52 ? Magicos (waits on dismissive comment from SmallClub )
Smoke time: 70 mins Source: Friendly Maquis

Appearance: Solid, chunky, beautifully rolled and perfectly cylindrical with a lightly textured, mid brown wrapper that?s darker than the Qd?O norm and carried some light veins. Double banded, the standard Qd?O band which generally sit well on their sticks, did to my eye on the Embajador, look a little undersize.

Construction: A nicely balanced, firmly packed stick with a neatly finished cap. The pre-draw was light. The smoking draw being open was perfect for a Robusto. The burn I thought was a little ragged at times but not in any way dramatic. The mid-grey ash was crisp and compact. No relights, no corrections.

Flavour: The pre-draw aroma was clean hay over light tobacco. The initial puffs were I thought a little raw, just toasted tobacco, but when the typically Cuban citric fruitlike flavour arrived the cigar settled into stride taking on a delightful delicate sweetness. The primary citric taste had a soft sherbet edge that was simultaneously both shap and refreshing. As the third progressed the lemonlike edged dried a little, and for me, improved the tastes. Retro-hale provided a sharp lemon/spice which hung around in the nostrils. Delicious. Before the end of the first third I?d also began to notice that the cigar didn?t lack strength. (I think Habanos have taken a hint from French Aficionado who account for a huge proportion of Boli sales). By the end of the third the smoke had coated the roof and back of my mouth with a warm, sugared sweetness. Into the second third and the fruit flavours became more Autumn berrylike, smoothing and mellowing out prior to the arrival of light woods that completed the second third. The power too had crept up, but in enjoying the flavors, I had slightly switched-off to it (Big mistake). Moving into the final third and the taste of tobacco became far more pronounced, perhaps due to the cigars youth I don?t know, but by now the strength of the Embajador was starting to get to me, and the last photo is where I had to stop. I did however go back and finish it some 15mins later.

Overall: Delicious tasteing cigar even this young. Great flavour, very relaxing and most certainly a smoke I will be returning to again. But beware, treat it with respect. I never, EVER expected to be keeled-over by a Qd?O, it has a mean side!

I have only smoked one and had a similar experience. Very good cigar, and just like you I've found it rather strong!

Agreed. A very good cigar. I took it for granted thinking it would 'match-in', with a strength similar to the rest of the Qd'Os ..... it doesn't!

Not had one of these but tried a few of the French REs and they all seemed pretty strong (to very strong in the case of the boli petit libertador) is this something to do with french taste (or percieved taste) in cigars (coffee, etc?) perhaps?

And thanks for yet another great review Arf
