So I thought I'd have a go at review. I'd been wanting to try a Chinchalero Novillo Fuerte Maduro cigar for a while now for a few reasons. I wanted to smoke a big fat cigar, I wanted to try a maduro and I wanted try something non-cuban and I wanted to try a cheaper cigar to see how it compares to the more expensive ones. I was impressed by how it looked and smelt. I really liked the deep rich brown colour of the wrapper which also had a lovely glossy appearance. Is this something common to all maduro wrappers? It also had this amazing smell that was like a mix between nice cigar tobacco and really dark chocolate. I've never smelt anything like it before.

Unfortunately, it didn't quite taste as good as it looked. It was medium strength and had a slightly sweet and spicy flavour which was consistent throughout which wasn't that exciting. It wasn't particularly smooth and had a slight burnt sort of flavour which hampered the enjoyment a little bit. The burn wasn't very good either and I had to correct it 3 or 4 times. I don't whether it was the size, the wrapper or just because I'm a newbie but this cigar had one hell of a nicotine kick. I stood up after I'd finished it and nearly stacked it because I felt like I was smashed

Overall I think this was an ok cigar, I'd give it 5/10. It wasn't that bad but it wasn't that good either, a bit like purgatory. It's worth trying but I doubt I'd get one again unless I was taking them to a poker night or something.
Also, I smoked this on my own sat on a park bench. I've said in another forum post recently that I enjoyed the social aspect of cigar smoking so I've never smoked alone before. I didn't really care for it and this could also have affected the enjoyment of this cigar. It was very peaceful and gave me a lot of time with my thoughts but I don't think the solo effort is for me

Anyway, I hope this review didn't suck too much

Thanks for the review...I bought one of these and a few other Chinchaleros recently...not tried any yet.

When I smoke it it will be interesting to compare your thoughts.

Actually I may have it tomorrow.

I know what you mean about smoking alone, occasionally I enjoy smoking alone, but prefer smoking with someone, unfortunately I don't know any other cigar smokers apart from my wife's cousin who's in Italy....this was another reason I joined the forum to maybe have a smoke with some like minded people.

see my post in newbie greets.

    Cheers mate!

Good review Sarge, glad to see I'm not the only one to get their arse nicotine kicked except mine was by the Cigar of the Year 2012 and it was a gorgeous smoke. I think I smoked it too fast which may have been a factor with yours too. I'm always careful to have a sweet drink with them now too. I'm told the Cubans have less nicotine in them.

Yeah, I'd be very interested to see what you think of it. Several of my mates who smoked have moved away or stopped so it can be very limited at times

Cheers man. You could be right about the speed. It took about 45 mins for me to smoke it but in comparison to the 60 mins it took me to smoke a perla whilst socialising, it's pretty fast

I find if I do smoke alone I smoke a lot faster, as your not stopping for conversation etc. At these times I get the real headrush sometimes. I need to kick back more and takem my time with a smoke. Whenever I'm in JJ Foxes having a smoke it lasts a lot longer I think.

I think this is spot on. I reckon I took a puff every 30 secs when smoking this one on my own whereas I reckon it's more like every min during a social smoke. Based on that it should take 90 mins to smoke this cigar socially. I may need to test this theory, perhaps with a NUB instead though

Yep I reckon I took a puff every 30 secs yesterday with my Trinidad....as I was on my own I need to slow down if I'm smoking on my own....might try today with my Chinchalero Novillo too.

I quite enjoy these cigars a a one dimensional cheap smoke, as you say not excellent by any stretch of the imagination but certainly not bad IMO.

I think you hit the nail On the head though, this is a poker night cigar to a T. I have to say though, I have never had an N kick from any of these.

I am so pleased to see every one putting their hands up, I don't feel such a prat now. My wife thought it was hilarious.

I imagine nicotine to be a bit like alcohol in that the more of it you consume the more of an immunity you build up to its effects. If you smoke more regularly you probably won't feel the effects as much

not just the nicotine, but the ammonia as well. well aged sticks have less ammonia and nicotine too, but not everyone can smoke vintage sticks whilst starting out.

I just had one of these and I liked it. No problems with the burn, not a complex flavour but a consistent almost chocolatey profile with occasional notes of coffee. Much less of a nicotine kick than I expected. Would smoke again but not for a while, there are more interesting smokes but certainly piqued my interest in trying more maduros.

I think this is exactly the same for me. I have other things on my 'hit list' first but I'd definately like to try some more maduros
