I think its more down to HM Government than anything else/

I don't know how long the EMS label has been applied to cigars in the UK. Possibly it meant more in the past that it does currently.

Agreed, once the government cut is accounted for, there can't be much left.

Personally I think EMS is a big con. I've had cigars from elsewhere and they've been very good. I've had people tell me that they've had EMS that have been plugged and awful. All the best cubans go to Russia now or so I hear!

I don't imagine the "best" Cubans go anywhere special. They are probably mixed in with the rest.

Anecdotally, I've had RyJ Romeo No. 2 tubos from Spain and England and even though the former were stored in pretty awful conditions they smoked and tasted pretty much the same. That said I guess the acid test would be how many sticks get rejected at this EMS inspection. I suspect formerly it was a significant number but these days not many.

Well, just smoking one now and I have to say that it's excellent up to now. Loads of thick smoke, very creamy mildly woody taste. Dry taste of sweet compost.... Lovely white ash too!
