Foundry Cigars, part of General Tobacco, brought out this range last year and so far they are only available online from Mike's Cigars in Miami. Factor in the postage etc and you're looking at about ?15 for this double toro but is it worth it? Its quite a mouthful at 6.25" with a ring gauge of 54. The wrapper and binder are American Connecticut and the filler a blend of three undisclosed South American tobaccos supposedly from countries not known for their tobacco. The mystery deepens. The wrapper is quite toothy with a triple cap, mine had a couple of snags on it but I put that down to damage in travel. They have a steam punk theme and to that end there is a little metal gear wheel around the band which serves no purpose but is supposed to look cool. The stick is well packed.
The wrapper has a delicious rich chocolate scent which even my wife noticed and a slight scent of toast at the foot. I cut it with a Black Ops cutter which is really weird as it has no hole but for a flat ended cigar makes a perfect cut every time about the size of a decent punch hole. The draw was easy and the pre-lit draw had light earthy notes.
This cigar lit very easily and never needed relighting. When I put it down it released a steady plume of smoke consistently. The burn went a little lopsided but corrected itself and when the aforementioned damage resulted in the wrapper splitting I kept going and it burned right through it with no problems.
So what about the taste? The taste was very smooth, creamy and clean but I couldn't get a handle on it for a while. the exhaled smoke was fruity and aromatic. Eventually I pinned it down to a sweet woody flavour with light hints of leather but it didn't hang around on my palate at all. There were no significant flavour changes and also no pepper at all, very much up my street. It remained constant to the end.
The ash dropped at around 2" or 42 minutes for me and it only dropped another two times. Smoking time for me was an hour and a half.
Would I recommend this cigar? Hell yeah.

Good review they look interesting smokes, seen them before and thought about them but the box they come in is very heavy so that put the plan on its ass. They are also available from most vendors stateside.

Ps. Keep your cog as it is meant to be if you collect one from each different vitola they are bringing out it is meant to make something but nobody knows what it is yet

Sounds better than I was expecting, I am wary of a lot of the over branded American sticks. Though the cog idea sounds interesting!
