Hi folks
Thought it might be a good idea to start a long term thread to jot things down along the way.
save space and time
Start with my first cigar- Partagas D4
(It is a while back, hopefully it isn't miles off)
I picked this one up in my local tobacconist, the condition is brilliant, though a little bit pricey...
First half, strong taste of toast, woodiness and coffee bean.
Halfway point, a little bitter and the coffee taste starts to kick off
Pass the half way point, ash came off due to the uneven burn, friend told me that the bitter creamy taste is the leather taste which I agree(finally know the signature taste of cuban cigar!). Strong coffee bean and leather taste.
Last three third part, very strong leather and peppery taste. The cigar became spongy and the smoke start to become a little hot.
Cigar went out, left with one and half inch end.
Lit with a match.

It is always hard work when putting words down as i smoke, but i think reading those note is very awarding.
And to be honest, i really don't do much when i smoked cigars, thought it would be nice to keep myself occupied

2nd Cigar-Bolivar Royal Corona

First light, nice draw and even burn. Coffee and leathery taste, body is lighter than d4.

First half, a mixture of coffee and leather. A small proportion toast. Body becomes fuller as the cigar reaches down. Smoke become thicker and flavor developed, leathery taste overcome the coffee, becomes dominant. Leathery smell, coffee taste. Growing into a fuller body and more rounded taste.

Passing the halfway point, the leather changes into a very deep dark combination of earthy leather and chocolate. Coffee taste still there, lurking around and pops from time to time.

Last 1/3, very full body, gives a strong taste of earthiness and deep leather.

Fine cigar, really enjoyed it.

3rd Cigar-Cohiba Corona Especiales

from 2001

First lit, very firm draw. Not sure if it is a knot or the cigar itself. I picked the cigar, most of them felt very firm. Light leathery and coffee taste. Very little smoke, but burnt very well.

As it developed, draw start to open up. Maybe this cigar deserves a little massage before getting lit.

Draw opened up after half way, smells very tinkle. Taste yet creamy and dark coco. Leathery delicious. The best burn I have seen. Ash fell off about every 1.5 inch.

Second half, leather taste developes. Different from any other, maybe it is the power of aging. Very strong taste, medium to full body, yet not smoky. Draw becomes perfect. A very special woody taste developed, trying to express itself within the last third of the cigar.

One of the best leather I had, although not very strong, but unique and consistent. The Cohiba spice comes as expected.

At the finishing, spice and leather taste combines itself. A little hot, but still very enjoyable.

Overall, apart from the draw, everything else was perfect.

4th Cigar- El Rey Del Mundo Choix Supreme

First light, medium body, creamy taste of floral and toast. Effortless draw. Nice even burn on the end.
Almost half way, very nice toast and leather taste. Sweet cedar aftertaste.

After half point, peppery and leather become the dominant. Medium body

Last third, pepper and leather full on! What a change in the flavors.

The ending is simply pure leather maybe along with a hint of coffee(very faint).

Nice cigar. But i think it deserves a little longer on the age, and i shall try its little brother, demi tasse.

5th Cigar-Romeo Y Julieta Corona

Said to be from 2006

First lit, relative light smoke. Cedar and toast taste.
Then a very delicate sweet taste of toast and hint of leather.
Passing the half way point, very fine toast note. Loving it!
Second half is a very strange change, gradually developing into a cedar leather taste.
Last quarter, toast taste came back. Cedar and toast is the dominant taste. Very nicely presented, since there aren't much smoke but taste is well brought up. Leather is always lurking around, but appears to be present at the end.

Draw is perfect all the way through, with a reasonable resistance. The cigar is very nicely rolled, but didn't burn that even.
Might be better if it sat in my humidor for a day or two to recover.

6th Cigar- Partagas Series Du Connoisseur No.3

Damn, this is the one that i was being lazy... didn't jot the stuff down and this is all memories.
don't blame me if it went wrong...
First lit, beautiful floral and cedar taste. A very nice amount of resistance just to get you sucking
Passing the half way point, didn't change much, but the "partagas" taste start to arise.
what is the partagas taste? in my opinion is the special leather taste and peppery note, which i think is quite distinctive
Last third, i think it was a big mix of the taste mentioned above, but the partagas taste takes over.
overall, a very nice smoke, medium body, nice pleasant taste to get you going on a saturday morning.

7th Cigar- Vega Robaina Unicos

1999
technically this is my 8th, but last one was awful so i thought it was unfair to write a review on a bad condition cigar, it can't represent all of them
anyway, when i first got it, the only thing in my mind was wow! dark oily wrapper along with a very nice cedar smell. so after sitting in my humidor for almost a month, i decided to light it up.
First third, cedar, creamy and significance amount of coffee taste. the body was light to medium and draw was perfect.
Second third, very strange taste. it developed the taste mention above but in a strange way that i wasn't really paying attention to because i was busy trying to fight against an uneven burn.
Last third, boom! what a change! it seems there is a line in between and after crossing it, it turned into another cigar! beautiful creamy taste, coffee still there, but tea leaf note suddenly emerged along with a nice caramel flavor. everything is so well balance that i just can't put it down. i smoked until an inch left, yes only and inch left because it was so good.
what a cigar! strongly recommend it if you haven't tried one before.
will get a younger one to see whether its the age that made it so special.

Due to the beautiful weather, I just can't sit still! So took out this aged bolivar from 1999 and see what it give.
First lit, coffee and floral notes emerge on my palate after having a nice long draw, the draw has a some resistance. Sniffing it, chocolate is what I can think of to describe the sweety smell.
After slowly working towards the half line, cedar note shows itself from time to time. The smell developed into caramel toast. Taste wise, coffee and earthiness is what I picked up along the way.
Finishing section, typical Bolivar profile taste shows. Earthy leather taste, with a very fine texture one the palate, its like after eating a dark chocolate, the richness remains in mouth after you had ate it. Body wise, the starting is a medium body, then full, smoke fulfill mouth. There are some spiciness to it, I am not sure if it is the heat or the taste, it tinkles the mouth and keep you awake in this richness smoke.
Overall, just simply wonderful smoke, take you time and it will certainly impress you. So get one while you still can.

IMO, the bad reviews and any discernible reason for them are equally valid and important to the good ones.

You are certainly smoking the path of quality sticks! Keep it up. I would however be interested to see an NC review in here just to see what you make of it.

there are some CA No.1s on the way. But a few days back I did pick up a cheap NC which I found quite... Depressing, it was boring and had the aroma of ammonia.
