  • Hoyo De Monterrey Grand Epicure

Bought myself this along with a BHK 54 and smoke them a day apart. I actually asked for a Epicure No. 2 but got this and boy am I glad I did haha.

Only got the one photo as I never intended on doing a review.

Was a cool but settled day and I had this whilst listening to the football (Liverpool vs Arsenal in the FA cup for those interested) and my trusty pint of vimto at hand.

Lit it up and straight away I was hit with sweet gentle notes and lots of rich smoke. There was summer fruits with a honey mix with a very mild leather on the after taste.

This lasted up to the mid way point at which time it deepened and exposed the leather a bit more but kept some of it's sweet notes.

The final third really deepened and became full of dark flavours, dark woody and leathery notes and the sweetness was all but gone, very little pepper and never harsh almost tasted like a completely different cigar.

It was an absolutely joy to behold and in all honesty it blew the BHK 54 out of the water. Lasted me about an hour at a steady pace with a beautiful burn and never showed signs of going out.

Has gone down as one of my favourite smokes of all time. Probably only the BHK 52 I had last year that beats it.

If you can get your hands on one of these it's a must have!

I glad to hear you enjoyed it. I have a box of these resting up waiting to come good. I tried one at new year and could see the promise then.

I can only imagine how much better they'll be with some age in them.

But will they? How do we know they won't peak and fade? Like life, cigars are a lottery when it comes to aging it would appear.

Well maybe. I've practically no experience with the ageing of cigars. Apart from a Monte A that's been sat there because of fear, smokes don't usually last more than a few weeks in my humi haha although some of the ones I've bought aged have been very good.

Great review. I now want to go and smoke mine. Shame about the match as the reds should have at least had a draw!

I really like the HdM Grand Epicure as well - will be getting a box as soon as fund allow me to get an order in.

I think the trick with ageing to to try them every now and then and take full advantage when they come good (that's what I'll be doing anyway!)

                      Great review by the way!

It would be nice to have a selection big enough to try one every six months until they hit peak.

It would indeed - that is certainly what I'm aiming for

Ah mate - that review sounds great.
Fingers crossed I'll be firing mine up this weekend.
It was due last week - but have been ill… and settled for a shorter smoke instead.
But yes. Looking forward to this one…

I nearly went for the Grand Epicure last week in my latest orders but those weren't LE according to the website. Are the standard ones also good or should I go with Epi 2?
