Trinidad Short Robusto T EL 2010

Smoked yesterday with an old fashioned (made with buffalo trace).

Appearance: Nice dark wrapper (I'm a fan of darker wrappers), almost maduro, although doesn't look it in the pics due to the flash. Slightly rugged and great plume on the head.

Smell: Deep, rich, earthy. Very inviting.

Construction, draw and burn: Well packed and seemed to be perfectly constructed. Draw was perfect and burn was good. Needed a few touch ups, but only near the end. The smoke was wonderfully cool, even as I nubbed it - may have been a function of smoking it nice and slow.

Flavour: Very much followed the pre-light aroma. Deep and earthy, with a slight underlying sweetness. Cocoa and coffee/espresso, with perhaps very subtle spice. No Cuban tanginess, which was a pleasant change. A rich smoke which reminded me a lot of the Ramon Allones Allones Extra EL 2011. In the second half, I got waves of aniseed sweetness, which went down really well. However, the base flavour of earth, espresso and cocoa remained.

All in all a great short smoke, though it did last me the best part of an hour. Nevertheless, I prefer the Trinidad Robusto T flavour profile (slightly sweeter, richer and more aromatic) and not sure the Short Robusto T is worth the extra price over the Reyes or a Cohiba Maduro 5 Secretos, which for me have similar flavour profiles.

I think the Short T is a great smoke, as as you say the price, especialy in UK, always comes into it when looking at Trini's & Cohiba. Always nice for a special treat or is someone kindly gifts you one (you know who you are) then you can appreciate it even more

The trouble was that year the partagas was so much better and bigger and cheaper. For me it was best smoke I had that year. Sounds like you enjoyed this though. Nice review.

I think you hit the nail on the head with EL's in so far as the dark wrapper dominates the flavour profile.

I also prefer the robusto t. As you said many of the more subtle elements of the Trinidad blend are lost on this stick.
