Following on from the initial Foundry range with their enigmatic gear wheels comes the 'War of Currents' extension range with a ring gauge that you could actually wear as a ring. The West Orange is a long robusto and comes in at 5.5" x50. The Colorado Claro wrapper is Connecticut Broadleaf and contains their undisclosed proprietary filler. The wrapper is quite toothy with a sweet tobacco smell and the stick was quite springy especially at the foot. Once cut the draw was very light and tasted of nothing more than dry tobacco.
Once lit though I was hit with a potent mouthful of toasted nuts and malt and plenty of aromatic smoke. This flavour burst settled down after the first inch and a tannic tea like flavour joined the pot.
The burn was good and the ash compact and layered, it dropped soon after the inch marker.
Into the second third and the flavours were evening out and the smoke developed a very clean flavour in the mouth as the nicotine started to build. Around the half way mark I noticed a split in the wrapper about 2" from the cap but carried on in the hope it wouldn't affect the burn. Sadly into the second half it began to get a bit bland and I couldn't tell if it was the blend or my palate but I let it go soon after it started to burn the split.
Overall I would describe this as an 'alright' cigar but not as good as the initial range.
