As promised, here are my thoughts on the Partagas Serie E Nr 2..
The cigar was from an April 2012 box of 25 sticks, kept at RH of 65 in my Coolador.
Smoking time: 70 minutes.
Pre-lighting, the cigar had a light aroma of chocolate, and a slightly grassy note too. I cut the cigar using a Palio cutter. Given the heavy ring gauge (54 by 5.5 inches) I was careful to toast the cigar for a good minute or so before smoking. The draw prior to lighting was very good, with little resistance. The cigar was very well-constructed, having a smooth claro-Colorado wrapper with no veins.
Upon lighting, the cigar instantly produced copious amounts of smoke. The initial flavours I got were reminiscent of a mochiato coffee, creamy and chocolatey..The construction ensured the stick held its ash very well, with a light grey ash.
After a inch or so of smoking down, the flavours became more full, with a hint of what I would describe as similar to orange peel, or possibly ground coriander. The chocolate taste intensified, and built gradually. Upon hitting the second third, the familiar Partagas spice notes started to become apparent. Not nearly as pronounced as its sister cigar the D4, but in evidence nonetheless. The cigar continued to burn flawlessly, with not a single touch-up required.
Towards the final third, the flavours continued to build. Chocolate notes with some earthy notes.
With about two inches left, the cigar became quite powerful. The spice was very evident on the tip of the tongue. With one inch left, the heat and strength were such that I decided to let the cigar die a dignified death in the ashtray. 70 minutes of delightful smoking.
One note I would make is that I have noticed quite a large variation across a box. Some sticks do not produce the power of this one. Others are great with a good balance of flavour, spice and strength. Some are so strong that they are almost unsmokeable, and have been ditched early.
I would commend this cigar to the members of the forum. If you have not tried one, then I would recommend you put it on your 'to try' list. It has become a firm favourite of mine.
