Cigar of the Month August 2014

The cigar has a nice Cuban smell with a sweet cure smell and biscuit. Cold draw through the punch hole is pleasant, as above with a touch of leather and liquorice.

First impressions are that it it surprisingly light but has the big boy flavours associated with heavy hitters. I have to admit in advance that I identified this stick before smoking it, I'm not claiming any voodoo Kung foo powers but by deduction there aren't that many Demi Corona/Secretos size Cubans to choose from so yeah going into this not entirely blind but 90% sure that it is the party short. So not exactly a blind taste but as always I will be impartial. The smoke is mellow, thick and flavoursome which in my book is a great thing. It could use some more sweetness at the start to counter a tad of a bitter note developing so I'm pairing with the good old budget iced caramel latte macchiato. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1407483557.268024.jpg mmm the coffee drink is lovely if a little too heavy on caramel.
The cigar:
Build and appearance is good, attractive for a small smoke with a wrapper slightly darker than Connecticut.
Burn is good at first Quarter.
Smoke production is faultless at present.
Ash is holding and is dark with deep craters and cracks.
Taste is leather, liquorice and a slight berry flavour which for me is good.
Overall impressions are that I would smoke these as a short smoke, would like it to be bigger (always have [emoji20]) and am pleasantly surprised that this is a better cigar than expected from its size and colour. My ash just fell at one inch, I'm not an ash hoarder but let it drop naturally to see what happened. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1407484135.923134.jpg
I like the cigar, its a good example of what you can get for little money with a proper Cuban taste. There is a bitterness there but it's not bad and tbh I don't mind bitter sometimes, my sweet coffee drink is helping no doubt.
There's a flavour change at second third that I can't quite put my finger on but will try, it is a fruity flavour with a sandalwood and nutty background. All the flavours are subtle and go well together, I'm inclined to let it go out to see what happens as it shows no sight of failing on me. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1407484437.791572.jpg
I have to go get Jizz so setting it down for ten mins....
Ok I have my butternuts now so on with the smoke. Re-light is bringing more of the same but with a hint of pepper and a tad more bitterness which is still at a palatable level. I've had a latte and am on my second chilled coffee now so plenty of caffeine mixed with the Nic hit from this little cigar is giving me an early morning smack in the face. There's not a hint of saltiness to the wrapper, it is a fruity and nutty profile that gives a little liquorice at first along with leather, that is gone now leaving me with the fruit and nut. I'd say the mix of berry and nut is something like a red berry/cherry frangipane tart. Yes I know that is the gayest thing I'm gonna say today! Its fine, I'm totally in touch with my inner Thomasina.
All in all I'd have to say this cigar is better than expected. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1407487846.507149.jpg.
A good choice this month, mine isn't getting bitter but that may just be my palate today, it's stronger in nicotine than I'd like in an ideal world, in fact if I could remove nicotine from the whole cigar smoking experience I would do. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1407488013.170832.jpgthe burn just went wonky and the bitterness came with it, I'm past the enjoyable stage so I'm letting it die now. One last chuff and I say goodbye.

The reason why I go with Party Short,
Now this will sound a little like butters wrote it, but bare with me,
it has a taste like a young boli PC, which I remember tasting when I tried a young party short, but the party short has a slight difference to the taste that I remember distinctively.
so if you can make sense of that you need a cigar

I'm adamant it isn't a Partagas Short, I suspect your guess is on the money. I suspect that only clubbers should be guessing though

A distinct Cuba taste imo but the anthesis of a Cuban cigar - no development of flavour profile, nor anything other than the light mild taste. A good taste though, and one I'll be revisiting as a light mild smoke - once I know what it is.
I can't believe that's a Partagas Short, in fact I'm troubled to what it could be and can only presume my palette was off when comparing notes with the above.
I think I'll tackle number two before hazarding a guess.
I'm not involved in this, but going by Edamski's pictures and Deanos description I would guess that it isn't a Shorts and is probably an ERdM TPC or Lunch Club.

Received my cigar today in top notch condition and decided to smoke it now whilst I had the opportunity [emoji4]
Lovely smooth milk chocolate brown wrapper. Well packed at the foot, has a Cuban tobacco smell about it, picking up a hint of honey and light grass and wood notes.

Medium draw, more green notes on the cold draw with a slight pepper on the lips.
Once lit, a good amount of white/grey smoke. Can't quite out my finger on the flavours coming through but they're not the honey and grass on the nose. Much heavier, woody, nutty there is a warmth/spice there but not like the normal hit of pepper. This is very similar to a bolivar.
After an inch or so the pepper comes to the front a little but is far from offensive. The honey comes up periodically. This is certainly a medium/full cigar in my books.

Towards the half way point it's mellowed slightly and the sweetness is coming to the front more along with light wood notes.
Up to the final third, the tastes have stayed much the same if only intensifying slightly. The burn had been spot on until this point. Still very smokeable.

Decided to leave it at this point as it got a little bitter and went out.

Overall a very enjoyable cigar. I'm certain it's Cuban, not entire sure of a brand apart from the initial hints of bolivar.
Look forward to every ones else's opinions and thank you HH for organising this [emoji4]

From the smell of the wrapper I would say this was definitely a Cuban. The stick felt springy and I got a little chilli pepper effect up my nose when I smelt it. Once cut the draw was easy but had no real flavour to it. From the outset the smoke was tannic and dry, the burn was straight and the ash well layered but it went out after an inch. Relit it had a biscuity flavour with a slightly bitter edge but after another inch it went out again. No reflection on our host this month but this wasn't to my taste but that is what the club is about. I'm guessing a Partagas because they're not usually to my taste.
