How do YOU rate cigars

There was a discussion on this a couple of months ago, it interesting how many variations we come up with

I use a system where the main characteristics I look for are given a score of 0 (below expectations), 1 (meets expectations) or 2 (exceeds), flavour can also get a 3 if its really special. The scores are then added together (with some weighted) to give an overall score.

At the min I either like them or not, and in my head give it a 1/10. Maybe in the future when my cigars get a little more adventurous I will do something like a yes and no jar to put the bands in or later on I may keep records and score's, we will have to see how it pans out.

I am not a fan of the 100 point system as it take looks into comparison directly against other aspects which have a more profound effect of qualitative judgement.

However the 100 point system does allow for finer scale of judgement than 20, 10 or 5 point systems.

5 point systems IMO are only fit for quick reference and not of in-depth review.
10 point systems are only marginally better and 20 point are getting closer to being useable but still don't offer the desired range.

A few months ago I came up with a 25.5 system to be precise. Taste out of 15, Aroma out of 5, Draw/Smoke out of 5 for maximum 25 points and Looks out of 5, but as looks don't necessarily affect overall enjoyment with cigars it shouldn't affect the overall score too directly if it looks bad so hence the .5... E.g we decide a cigar gets 23.2 because it tastes and smells excellent and has an excellent draw but looks crappy yet it still deserves to score better than the very average tasting, smelling and feeling 11.5 that looks excellent. ????

That's my thoughts on the matter anyhow. To be clear I originally came up with this rating system for beer and spirits but it translates well to cigars. It can be tailored to work with any consumer goods by choosing 4 points of judgement awarding the aspect of most qualitative importance (generally the thing it was designed to do) 15 points and generally separating out the less important and more subjective category of looks.

I don't bother but I did come up with a new system because 5 and 10 point systems are not good IMO as they don't account for enough variation. 100 point systems account for too much IMO. Give me a min and I will try and explain what I came up with.

So what's your preferred method and why? 1-5, 1-10, 1-100? How do you score it? Or are you like me and don't bother at all?

I done a quick google and the 'Cigar Aficionado' weighting is out of 100; appearance for 15, smoking characteristics 25, flavour 25 and "overall impression" 35. This seems pretty ambiguous to me.

I've never really bothered to be honest, I just try and keep try in my mind at which ones I like and don't like. I usually take a photo of each one too

There is an app available called Social Humidor which looks pretty handy, maybe I should start using that or keeping a diary of some sort.
