You can't really compare them, lol. It's like deciding between a Cohiba Esplendido and a Rafael Gonzalez Perla.
RA 8-9-8 for sure. But those were discontinued in 2002 whereas the Partagas 8-9-8s are ongoing.

It happens, had a dud cigar myself this week form there (I've mentioned it once or twice [emoji102]) but as you say it backs up more that they happen unfortunately

Matt Party Varnished means the box it come in is varnished inside & out, the unvarnished obviously isn't. The blend maybe slightly milder on the non-varnished. The fact the varnished is the one that survived (so far) should tell you all you need to know

Partagas has the 8-9-8 unvarnished until 2002. Then the 8-9-8 varnished came out.

Unvarnished production until 2002. Started pre-embargo.
Varnushed production current. Started 1975ish.

Darn-I didn't know they co-existed! I just assumed all the pre-02 898s were unvarnished. Silly me.
