  • 2016 Regius Seleccion Orchant Limited Edition

    Oye Amigos!

While on a recent journey up Norte (San Diego, California), I had the pleasure to sample the 2016 Regious Orchant Seleccion Robusto. I found this treasure at one of the oldest Tobacco Shops in the West - Racine & Laramie in Old Town San Diego.

Now, I had read a few comments on this forum in the past panning this stick, so I was a bit hesitant to spark one up based on the recommendation of the shop proprietor. But I have to admit, the 2016 I smoked was thoroughly enjoyable. I ended up buying a box of the robustos (4 3/4 X 52) and the Hermoso (5 X 48).

Rather than attempt to decribe the smoke, I am including links to two reviews that perfectly recount my experience.

Regius Cigars is a noted cigar company based out of London, England. The company partnered with the Plasencia family in Esteli, Nicaragua to source the leaf and produce their fine creations. Today …

I’m pretty happy to be doing this review.  The Regius Black Label is one of my favorite cigar lines and I heard that Akhil Kapacee teamed up with Mitchell Orchant of Alfie Turmeaus Tobacconist in 2014 to release special editions bearing Orchant’s name, Regius Seleccion Orchant.  Released originally in a robusto size and also in a […]

So, if your past encounter with the Regius was less than stellar, I strongly suggest you pick up a 2016 Orchant Seleccion and give it another go. I don't think you will be dissapointed!

    Way to go Mitch (@smokeymo)!

"...Sweet hay... pepper... nut... peanut... coffee... sweetness... cedar... Cubanesque floralness... sea salt... butternut..."

Wow those fellas at stogiepress found a ton of flavours in that fine puro!

All this makes me wanna try one.

Yeah...well, like many reviewers, they pick up flavors I only dream about... or read on a Flavor Wheel! But you get the idea, it's a pretty darn good cigar. Not a puro, however.* Just a very good NC Seegar. BTW, smoking on the front porch of the shop with the locals was a pure joy....like going back in time to the western frontier (USA)

*Correction! The Reguis IS a puro - 100% Nicaraguan! Sorry, Smokey joe!

Pardon my ignorance but what's the difference between a seegar and a puro?

Good question, chico. A "puro" is a cigar made of tobacco from a single country - 100%. In spanish, puro means pure. Used by the Coros to distinguish Cubans from all other cigars.

That's not to say that you can't get Dominican, Nicaraguan etc puros.

That is correct, sir. Pure is pure no matter what country.

Having said that and after a wee bit of research, I now believe the Regius IS a puro - 100% Nicaraguan.

Only just come across this, BB, and I'm sold - just ordered a box of 10 and a couple of singles (I think my first SOBER on line box purchase!). Alas, I'm being boring and collecting them from our sponsor's Mayfair shop rather than heading to San Diego (and who hasn't wanted to go there after 'Anchorman'?)

                      Good on you, compadre!

Which did you order? Robustos or hermosos? I just purchased the last box of robustos at my local B&M.

I went for the robustos. I've never had a hermosos; beyond the different size/vitola, is there any smoking/flavour difference between the two?

Damn they sound so good I had to jump on the impulse train and get a box as well. Looking forward to them.

Well, surprisingly there is a slight difference. I like both vitolas and have several boxes of each, but of the two formats, I prefer the robusto by a slight margin. So you did good, amigo!
