I really liked my first couple of these but have found subsequent tastings a bit disappointing. Can i stress these really are great, better than most standard production, but compare it to a partagas pirammide 2000, or say a party D1, and for me the doro lose. For the price there are far better out there.
I would like to try one in 5 years and eat my words!
Well, TJ and Skype herfed our samplers yesterday evening and the Punch came in at a very nice offering.
Construction on mine was veiny, and quite 'lumpy' where said veins ran through the wrapper. However, it's an impressive cigar visually. A pre light deep whiff at the foot revealed a sweet incense-like aroma (well, I thought so) and quality tobacco. I put the foot right up to my nostril, to get in there.
I'm not your man for picking out the subtle nuances unfortunately, but the flavour was good and rich. I've only ever smoked the Punch Punch previously and that was last year, so I'm not able to compare profiles. The D'Oro cigar did smoke more mildy than I was expecting. Not without a good flavour I'll add. No dramas with the draw, and the ash held well. The last third and finish were much stronger, which I actually liked.
Overall: if these are in your price zone, I'd say you wouldn't be disappointed
Skyped and Smoked the Punch UK Regional last night with fellow BOTL, senor CJ.
General Observation: A lovely looking figurado with a nice choco-brown wrapper. I clipped the conical tip and sparked up the limited puro. First thing I noticed was plenty of smoke from the foot as I took my first puff. Again, more smoke emitted from the head and the foot as I blew a perfect ring. Senor CJ gave it a go with no success!
Flavors: Upon first puff, I noticed a strong taste of smoke and tobacco favors, followed my more smoke and tobacco. Further down the stick, I too noted the sweet aroma of incense and hints of chocolate and tea. But then again, I was burning a few sticks of Nag Champa and eating a Hershey bar while sipping black tea at the time....may of had an influence.
Construction: My puro had a nice texture with few veins and lovely chocolate/brown coloring; unlike senor CJ's lumpy stick. But I actually store my puros in a Real Humidor (see pic below); not those cheesy so-called cabinet humis you boyz are getting from east Germany.
Overall impression:This is a mighty fine puro that I would gladly pay $12 for, if it can be had at that price.
Names Perro, el Perro, and I give the Punch Exclusivo Reino Unido two thumbs up
Don't forget the thank senor for providing the stick to sample.
