  • Flor de Oliva Giants 1066... 10 inches by 66RG

Well.. ive done it, i smoked the giant cigar that was gifted to me by Isaac.. aka eyesack and thank you very much for the experience..

I started this cigar by punching the end as i havent got a 66RG cutter and my normal disposables are all pretty blunt now.

This took some puff to light due to the fact it was soooooo long and soooo thick... In essence to smoke this stick you need a rather large orifice to say the very least...

I was expecting a very long smoke and was more than surprised that it only took 2 hours and 10 mins from start to finish.

This is a nice mild cigar, i think it has a Connecticut style wrapper and seems to be very loosely rolled so it burned easily once it was going.. The burn itself was particularly strange as it would burn fairly even, then uneven then seem to even itself out again. This cigar did neither make me feel overwhelmed at any time not give off any bitter tastes.

A very fruity cigar from start to finish, i cant see any differences between thirds, eighths or anything else.

Flavour for this cigar was consistent, it was plainly simple and fruity, i sensed no earthiness about it, no memories and no surprised flavours.

Were it not for its size i would suggest it to be a nice morning smoke to start your day.. Mind you saying that you would clearly have to get up early if you smoked it as a start to your day.

Pretty much free of any veins, or uneven lumps, the whole experience was consistent from start to finish. Smoked on an empty stomach with the exception of a cup of earl grey tea, which oddly enough was a good compliment to this cigar. The ash was nice and clean and white, although it didnt hold for long and would come off after just a couple of inches.

Its not one that i would smoke on a regular basis as im sure in 'real life' i wouldnt really have the time. However it was well worth the experience. If you like mild cigars, im sure that this would be a good smoke for you, i guess the Flor de Oliva range must be similar as ive looked it up and they come in a range of sizes, the Giant being the biggest.

I was certainly not disappointed but i was ready for at least a 4 hour smoke..

Apologies to mike who i just realised is in one of my pics as i was chatting to him on skype at the time i was smoking this stick.. makes a beautiful stick look even nicer due to his ugly mug in the background haha

As you can see i smoked it down as far as i could before giving up...

Here are a few picks to wet your appetites..

      enjoy

Unlike most cigars reviewed on this website, the Flor de Oliva Gold Toro was the subject of a series of cigar taste tests conducted over a period of one year. The purpose of this experiment was not only to rate this cigar after smoking more than just one (or only a few), but to determine how aging a box or bundle of cigars affects the taste and enjoyment of those cigars over a period of time. In addition to the effects of aging the cigars in a properly maintained humidor, other factors such as accompanying libations were also considered. For the record, a frozen White Russian accompanied the final cigar tested after one year of aging, and the taste of the cigar was rated as 3 ? stars.

The Flor de Oliva Gold Toro cigar is made in Nicaragua, using a Connecticut shade wrapper and filler tobacco from Nicaragua. The cigar measures six inches in length, with a ring gauge of 50. The regular Flor de Oliva line of cigars are also made in Nicaragua, but use sweet Sumatra wrappers or Maduro wrappers and Corojo wrapper. For comparison, a torpedo shaped cigar from the regular line measuring 6 1/2 inches in length with a ring gauge of 52, and having a Sumatra wrapper, was also included as a part of this review.
      Flavor

A total of 16 Flor de Oliva Gold Toros were included in a taste test which covered a period of one year, earning these cigars an average rating of 3 ? stars. Although a few cigars in the test bundle scored as high as four stars, the taste was not consistent enough at that level, even after one year, to deserve a final four-star rating. A couple of cigars that were tested early during the experiment scored less than two stars, and needed some time inside of a humidor to stabilize and improve. Cigars rated on this website are aged for at least two or three months (most are aged longer) before being rated. Cigars that are aged for several months to a year are not comparable to the same cigars smoked right out of the box.

The Flor de Oliva Torpedo cigar also earns a rating of 3 ? stars, in my opinion. This cigar was aged for about 1 ? years before smoking. The torpedo was medium in flavor, with a nice sweet taste on the head of the cigar to compliment the rich tobacco flavors. On the other hand, the Gold Toro did not have any sweetener added to the head of the cigar, but did have a smoother and milder flavor than the torpedo because of its Connecticut shade wrapper. Although the flavors of both cigars were different, they were equally enjoyable.
      Draw and Construction

Both cigars were well constructed and had excellent draws. The burns were mostly even, and none of the Gold Toro's required any relights, but a few of the cigars did need a touchup light. The Gold Toro's took about 45 minutes to smoke down to two inches remaining. The torpedo did require one relight during the hour that it took to smoke the cigar down to two inches. There were not any major construction issues to prevent the smoking enjoyment of either of these cigars.
      Value

Both the Flor de Oliva and Flor de Oliva Gold line of cigars are excellent values. The Gold line might be compared to Macanudo, but at a fraction of the price. The regular line is more comparable to Montecristo, but only sweeter, and at a fraction of the price. Both lines of cigars are excellent choices for both beginner cigar smokers and seasoned smokers who like to enjoy an occasional mild-to-medium flavored cigar.

Hahaha oh my, I'm sorry, but I have never actually seen anyone smoke one of these beasts that I've used as bomb shells!!!! I couldn't stop wondering while reading your post if you had actually done the deed, but low-and-behold, the pictures do not lie!!! It takes a certain kind of man to willingly smoke something that large and post pics to prove it! lol i haven't personally had the bollocks to do this yet. Great job Egg! I think you deserve a prize for doing that lol...

BTW, G-Man, this is part of the regular Flor De Oliva line, not the gold or the corojo; these are sumatra-wrapped cigars. I might actually have to smoke one of these now that I know it's possible! +10000 for this review lol, seriously, you went where no man has gone before.

On a side note, could anyone here imagine walking around a formal gathering, sipping champagne with their pocket-watches and monocles, and whipping out one of these horse-shlongs? Looks like a slap-stick prop. You're gonna poke an eye out!! LOL! I've thought about doing this just for kicks, and maybe now i will!

Think I'm gonna have to tell Eyesack I ain't quite so brave, and besides the only thing I own big enough to circumcise the bugger is a Stanley knife. (I mean the cigar not Eyesack!)
