  • Bahia Blue

Ok i was really looking forward to this smoke as ive found the Bahia Maduro with the red ring to be a very tasty cigar and i so my expectations of this one were just as high.

To start with the cigar looked and smelt good, nice and smooth outer leaf and very limited veins, It looked nice with a mild looking wrapper, not sure whether it was closer to a habano style wrapper or a Connecticut wrapper, so not to dark and yet not to light in colour.

Given my high expectations of the brand i was to be very disappointed, this has got to be one of, if not the only time ive felt that i was not able to continue smoking past the halfway point, by which time i had decided (for once) enough is enough.

I punched the skirt and lit this cigar in the normal way for me, turning as i lit it and taking in the draw. Once lit i sat back to enjoy it. However, this first thing that i noticed was a distinct lack of flavour, the aroma was shall we say almost non existent.

The draw was easy which was ok, and she burned evenly which i liked, but it was like having a piece of cardboard in my mouth. After about an inch maybe an inch and half i decided i didnt like the feeling of cardboard or the taste that was being left in my mouth, so i got out a rather knackered twin bladed disposable cutter and snipped the end off about half inch in to see if that made any difference.

This cigar then changed in that, the cardboard taste in my mouth had gone (which is good) but the lack of flavours remained.

I found that the oily outer leaf was in appearance only and did not feel oily on my lips at all. In fact the cigar left my whole mouth area feeling very dry and i resulted to putting it down and heading off to brush my teeth and take away the taste.

I dont know what anyone else thinks of this cigar but it surprised me.

Perhaps its because i spent half the night up in accident and emergency with Paula and my palette was feeling a little tired, i dont know. But this is the first cigar ive actually EVER decided to abandon..

Any views? Id probably have another go at one to see if it was me or the cigar but ive never been effected by this cardboard sensation of totally dry mouth during smoking. I didnt enjoy this at all.

So those who have tried this cigar, is it me or the stick?

Nice review eggopp. Shame about the quality of the cigar, but a very nice description of it. Thanks.

I've got an 'orange' one sitting in my humi at the moment. Hopefully it will be more like the red than the blue then...

I actually found the Bahia range not bad. They're quite cheap cigras so I guess you get what you pay for, but I reckon you should try another when you're not stressed out.

Ha ! I've enjoyed many of these and can honestly say I never had your experience.
But to each day comes a different taste . I could well be the stress played a part in your taste. Or did you smoke it backward and the band was burning . LOL
Try another and see what you find. Do report back.
