  • cuaba salomones, PROPER REVIEW.....

    hey all,
for the course of the summer, i bought a couple of small boxes (10 counts) of larger cigars!!! by larger, i mean both ring gauge and length!!!! of all of the cigars i bought, there was one that outshone the rest........... the CUABA SALAMONES!!!

i wrote up a small, quick review of this cigar a while ago, but tonight, the point hit home home!!! this is a FANTASTIC cigar with little wrote up on it!!!!

i've now smoked 5 of a box of 10 and i feel it now deserves a proper review!!

i finished work relatively early tonight, and had my supplies in!!! some nice wine,a half bottle of southern comfort and a slab of lindy 90% dark chocolate!!!! after a lovely sunday dinner at my mother's (that's another story), i thought i'd retire to the 'smoking lounge' (her back garden)!!! initially i'd planned on an h upmann magnum 50, then i thought 'F**K it', a CUABA SALAMONES!!! i'm sooo glad i did.....

figuring it's a relatively nice evening, with plenty of time to spare, i elected said cigar!!!! everything about it suggested a quality smoke!!! great construction, great aroma cold, great taste cold!!!! drinks poured, cigar cut, let proceedings beginn........

right from the off, things were great!!! initial taste were lovely...... grassy, herbally, green tea!!!! the first quarter passed by nicely! medium bodied, clean tasting etc etc!!!! after about an inch, the ash fell off, then it raised it's profile!!!! a beautiful earthiness kicked it, with a lovely leathery aroma!!! a nice toasty taste came though, with nice herbally/ green tea tastes!!! after a progression of about another inch, new flavours came through....... wild mushroom, chestnuts, baked potatoes (cooked on a BBQ no less)!!! i was in heaven!!! this was developing into a great cigar!!!! the aromas were great, the burn fantastic (you coudn't have gotten a straighter edge, except from a set square)!!! the flavours got more intense over the rest of the cigar, with the flavours mentioned ebbing and flowing in and out!!! this was showing itself to be the perfect 'outdoor' cigar!!!!!

the cigar lasted the guts of 2hrs, smoked at a relaxed pace!!! never once becoming too hot, bitter or too much...... a pefect smoking experience!!! the mild bodied, earthy flavour perfectly complemented the size!!! given the unpredictable weather, this is probably my last chance to smoke one of these!!! given this was an 2009 box, and smoking sooo well, i wonder what another year or more would do for these!!!

easy a 92+ scoring cigar!!!! my advice is, get some in now for next summmer!!!! the perfect cigar for a lazy summer's eve or BBQ!!!!

    all the best,

    alex

Was actually looking at these as a possible purchase just the other day, thinking I'll receive them for Christmas along with a Diademas.

      hey watkins,
looking at the diademas myself, for next summer!!!! the salamones are a great smoke if you got somewhere decent indoors to smoke 'em!!!! this, i suspect, is my last 'LARGE' smoke of the season (from here on in, it''l be half coronas..... 45min smokes)!!!

      all the best,

      alex

Beautiful review, senor robusto. Fantastic the way you set the idyllic scene for what looks to be a great smoke. My friends been telling me to try this line, so it is most certainly on the 'must have' list.

          Great review, Senor Robusto.

I have tried the Divinos and Generosos from the Cuaba brand...like them both.
I have not tried the Salomones. I need to get a few singles of this Bad Boy.

            hey soulmanure,
the best way to describe the cuaba line is RUSTIC!!! the traditionales and the divinos are absolute favourites of mine....... haven't had a chance to try the others in that line, but for smaller, tasty smokes you can't go wrong with those!!!

            cheers,

            alex

Great review senor! I really must get around to trying one of the Cuaba line. Not so sure of the green tea aspect, but, willing to give it a shot given the overall impression you have given.

May well pcik up a smaller one in JJ Fox this afternoon.

(PS. Baked potato!? You've taken a leaf out of Mr B's 'food flavours' of the dinner table book...)

I LOVE those Cuabas! Tried them in March and they were fantastic! Definitely on my "need" list when I'm working again!

Great review Alex. And the rating doesn't surprise me. Love the Cuaba range. I haven't got round to a Salomones or Diademas yet, but I do have a Solly asleep in the humi, like you say just waiting for that 'when everything's right' timewise and weatherwise occasion. Really pleased you enjoyed your smoke matey .... and to find out that it ain't for nothing the Salomones is rated the number one Cuban production cigar.
If you want to, you can.
And, if you can, you must!

lol, nice one simon!!!! but really, i did get the flavour of a baked potato....... one that was cooked in the embers of a BBQ!!!! it's was a gentle giant of a cigar, nice and mellow with lovely 'soft' flavours (as i said, i was getting baked potato, wild mushroom, light cocoa, herbal, green tea etc etc) lol......

if you are gonna take the plunge with the cuaba range, i would recommend the traditionales, divinos or generosos........ all great 'little' cigars (41 &42RG)!!!

                      all the best,

                      alex
