  • Trinidad Short Robusto T LE 2010

Here we go with the first LE 2010 that I tried this year. Pretty good smoke.

In the appearance department, this 4 x 50 Short Robusto has its fair share of flaws, namely a couple of water spots and a slight trace of glue. The wrapper is consistent with the traditional Trinidad style: a rather dark nuance of brown, with a rustic appearance. Although the body of the cigar is quite rough, the triple cap and the pigtail look great.

The construction is near perfect and the draw was resistant, but just the right amount. Considering that the burn had to fight with moderate winds, the few adjustments I had to apply were acceptable.

Pre-light, the cigar will delight you with a pleasant, familiar bitter scent. Its intensity increases from the mild woody aroma at the foot, up to the stronger notes at the head.

Once lit, a blast of wood, pepper and sweet coffee hits my senses. This medium-bodied Short Robusto T has a complex flavor profile that seemed to oscillate, in degrees of sweetness, with each and every inhale. At random times, toasted notes accompany the primary aroma. Entering the second third of the cigar, the flavor turns into a more noticeably bitter note, fading into a taste of dark chocolate. A heavy wooden flavor dominates the last third, replacing the previous peppery sweetness.

When it comes to evaluating the value of this cigar, the obvious thought is to compare it with the Trinidad Robusto T. This new edition comes at a higher price, while offering less smoking time (it is shorter). The flavor of the T 2010 is similarly enjoyable, but overall, the cigar cannot match the older Robusto.

    Good review inspector!

Interesting read, I've seen a few people say they are a little mediocre compared to the older robusto.

Nice review Denis. I do have some of these. Short as they are, most of the reviews I've seen suggest they're the pick of the 2010 LEs and will get even better with age.

I tried to get a couple in Milan but they'd sold out completely in both shops I tried. Really want to try a few. I'm in Ed for the next few days and I've brought a robusto T with me....nice

I found mine to be a tighter draw from a more solid cigar than the earlier Robusto & took about the same time to smoke. The colouring as well I think is darker than the traditional Trini colouring, they seemed to change wrapper colour when the Robusto Extra was launched.
All in all though, I thought it was a rather good smoke, usual TTT profile.

Enjoyed the one I smoked and have one more sitting pertly in my humidor winking in a pigtaily sort of way.

                      But:
                      - Not much cigar for the money
                      - Too many bands for such a mini stogie in my book.
                      Nic
