  • Short Winter Smoke ? 12

    Cigar: Partagas Tres Petit Coronas
    Size: 116 mm x 40 ? Franciscano
    Smoke time: 60 mins

Cigar box age: H&F aged 1998. Source http://www.mysmokingshop.co.uk

    Notes:
    1) This is an aged cigar and as such may be passed it?s halcyon days, but as it?s the first of these I?ve smoked I?ve no way of knowing.
    2) If you prefer a sweeter edge to your cigars then this is NOT the smoke for you.

Appearance: Semi-rustic, slightly squared with the H&F age band applied beneath the branding band. A touch of green patching to the otherwise oily, rich brown wrapper with an occasional scar and surface vein.

Construction: Easy pre-light draw with a effortless smoking draw throughout. No problems burnwise. The ash remained well compacted and was the darkest I?ve yet seen on any Cuban (almost black). Two tap offs, one fall off. No re-lights and no corrections.

Flavour: The pre-light aroma was tobacco and earth. The flavour description on this cigar is short and simple. Earth and more earth. The flavour is very strong and just gets stronger as the smoke progresses. There was some sweetness, but very much as a back note. There was also a subtle saltiness and an occasional hint of spice. I, for myself, enjoyed the rich, deep earthiness of this cigar, I also liked the way in which the tobacco strength increased in parallel, but didn?t quite get to the pitch to knock me over. Excellent!

Overall: A quality cigar. Not the easiest to get hold of nowdays, but if you can, well worth the purchase if only to experience a now long gone Habano!

I recently finished a box of these (1998, H&F); not my favourite range of flavors but definitly a good, strong, well aged cigar?

Good review! (and consistent with my own impressions).

No. And for the following reasons. One, I don't feel experienced or well enough qualified to do it. Two, I believe each has a niche place and so far to varying degrees I've enjoyed them all. If one has stood out it would be the H.Upmann Mag 48 EL, but then that is rational behind producing it.

Sorry about the sore throat Pete. With luck it will be gone in a day or two and you'll be back to catch-up on a few fine Cubans over New Year.
